It has been done, call the shop. :) Mine has a Nordstrand MM5.2; I believe Roger also offers the Seymour Duncan MM style pickup. The Sadowsky preamp is not a Music Man preamp therefore it isn't a Stingray tone clone, but the MM-style pickup gives it a good Stingray vibe nonetheless.

P.S. Mine is not the first MM-style Sadowsky overall, but FWIW I think it's the first with five strings.

:eek: wasn't aware Roger did such a thing! Kinda was thinkin a P would be my next build (lol! :D Yup already thinkin about it!!), but an MM would be something to think about!

Have any sound clips or video demos of your sweet bass?

I already had a Sadowsky P-bass, so I inquired about the MM style, and the crew made it happen! The pearl white isn't exactly subtle :cool: but I love it and am glad some of you like it too. Again, the bass gets close enough to the MM sound for me, and it plays like a Sadowsky: proper string spacing, not cramped like the MusicMan fivers.

I do have some bass-centric video demos, but they fall into the "be careful what you ask for" bucket. My playing doesn't really do the bass justice, but for better or worse:

I own a Lakland Skyline hollowbody. It is a really cool bass. I too have often wondered how amazing a Sadowsky hollowbody bass would be. I wonder if Roger has given it any thought?

I fairly recently had a Sadowsky preamp installed in my Lull. The sound is great but my batteries have been draining super-quick (they'll last maybe a month). Any idea what could be causing this (the old pre was 18v but I had the excess wire/battery connector removed)?

perhaps shots of the wiring would help, but batteries for a preamp should last longer then a month :confused:

sounds like the preamp is always on. it should ONLY be on when a 1/4 jack is plugged in the instrument jack.

I had a pre-owned MTD 535 for awhile (excellent bass, the asymmetric neck profile was to die for, but it wasn't my thing overall). The first thing I noticed was that the batteries would die quickly. I contacted Mike Tobias, who said that on some early 535s one of the control cavity cover screws could touch the output jack, which meant the preamp was on all the time. It was true in my case, and the solution was to snip the tip off of that particular screw.

Long shot that it's relevant here, but ya never know.

Wow... seriously? Why not just rotate the jack a little? Maybe I'm missing a logistical detail explaining things.

Rather than a regular hollow body bass, I was very impressed with an electric semi-hollow fretless that has a graphic eq. preamp. :hiding:
I'd really like to see Roger perhaps consider this style. I think you can get VERY close to upright bass sound out of it with flats. I think that an ebony board fretless edition might be interesting as a 2nd fiddle to the Sad' solid body bass.

The Warwick Streamer Stage I fiver I owned had a fancy barrel-shaped jack, rather than the standard pronged one. Maybe the MTD 535 did too, but I don't recall. I did a lot of bass swapping when I first switched to five string.

Well, in that case, I would think that if the screw were able to compress the barrel enough to short it out (I honestly find this very hard to believe), it'd be a permanent damage thing and you'd have to replace the jack. My suspicion is it's just a case of the screw, being "connected" to shield/ground, touched the negative battery terminal, shorting it to ground (which is what the shank of the guitar cord does to the ring/sleeve when plugged in), and turning the preamp on. In that case, just rotating the jack so the screw doesn't touch a terminal any more should fix it.

Anyway, just seems odd. I'm probably missing something.
