Club Sadowsky!!!

I've recorded with mostly Fenders and MusicMan basses, but my Sadowsky is by far the best I've ever heard.

If you havent done some full band recordings with your Sadowsky yet, go do it! I'll have to wait till everything is mixed and mastered, but I'll post some clips up ASAP.

You know what, going into it with my settings I thought we'd have to boost the lows, but to be honest, it doesnt need it at all.

All he wants to do is use a little bit of compression and I think add a touch of reverb to one part in a song. Other than that I think the bass tracks are staying how they are. I'm super happy with the way they sound.

This is all serendipitous...

Our band needs to record some clippits for an updated demo CD and we used a small local studio which also uses Protools and some pretty nice outboard equipment as well. I decided I wanted to hear my MV5/SC on a recording because I've been so impressed with how great it sounds through the Aviom system in the larger worship gig I do.

We had some issues getting things going yesterday, so all we got done yesterday was a couple basic scratch tracks to verify stuff, and I ended up just plugging in using my own Radial JDI box (long story). We should be able to finally lay the tracks down Wednesday.

Anyway, I was amazed at how this thing sounded. Ok, not really amazed, I mean, I expected it, but still. I was also using my own Westone UM-2's instead of the studio cans, which I'm sure helped, but dang... talk about a sweet and cutting tone. It's so obvious Roger spent a lot of time refining the tone of his basses to work ideally in real practical scenarios, as opposed to just getting it to sound as "pretty" as possible with nothing else going on.

On a side note, just before going over, I threw a set of new HiBeams on there. I've been using Sadowsky blacks and blues, and also DR LoRiders so far, but wanted to try some HB's per KJung's ravings. They worked great, but I also still really dig the LR's, and the Sadowskys are pretty nice too. Not sure if I have a fave yet.

The MV5 has quickly risen to FMCDH status with me. :)

HC's for me. Still has the month old stainless steel Sadowsky Blue Labels on it too.

Whats really funny is one of my guitar players (a former bass player) kept asking why I didnt get a Fender Jazz instead when I first got my Sadowsky. He agreed that my bass sounds great live, but said so did his Fenders. Yesterday he was floored more than anyone and kept saying "make sure you dont sell that one"

I've had my MS5 with SC's for a year now and I like it as much or more than I did the very first time I played it with the band. I have never owned a bass this long without getting GAS for something else. I can't imagine any other instrument sounding this good. I sure wish I had tried a Sadowsky years ago.

I know I've come here several times before about this, but here I am again.

My M5-24 is by far the best feeling and playing bass I've ever owned. I absolutely love how it feels. The sound just isn't cutting it for my band (straight ahead 90's, 2000's rock). I've fiddled around with the blend, the EQ, the VTC, but no matter what it just isn't sitting in the mix. I don't know how to describe the sound besides "boxy." I think I'm just not a soap bars kind of guy. I really want the deep and juicy J pickups. I love playing on my marcus miller signature, I love the sound, but the feel and everything else aren't there like they are on the M5-24.

Will some big singles give me a more jazz-ish sound? Or am I doomed to never be satisfied with the sound because of the pickup locations?

Perhaps a MV5 is in my future?

I should have said that I don't think the Big Singles will make the difference the OP is looking for with the placement they would be in. My MV5s are all huge sounding! I believe that you should play a couple of different things and decide for yourself but I can guarantee the MV5 is a different animal than the Modern. Good Luck in your quest....

HI

Sounds like you need a Sadowsky JJ, V. Different beast. The only other suggestion is to solo the rear pickup on your bass. Thats all I can think of. My JJ's freaking rule!! I have 3 NYC's and a metro hybrid PJ. Thats another idea you might want to explore. Very versatile beast, Sadowsky PJ. Good luck
