Club Sadowsky!!!

Hey Club Sadowsky,

I am enthralled with the sounds from my Sadowsky 5 string (see avatar). However I am wondering if a 1.75" nut width would suit me better (I have a Yamaha BBNE2 which is 1 11/16" and I like the slim width - although arguably the Yamaha is too narrow).

Do you think a 1.75" nut width Sadowsky neck would be much easier to get around on than the 1 7/8"?

Is a Metro Will Lee 1.75" nut width? (Cant find a clear statement on this on the SG website).

On a related note does anyone know if a 5 string Sadowsky with 18mm string spacing at the bridge has a narrower neck (width, not front to back) or is it the same as the 19mm spacing neck?

The WL 5 (both NYC and Metro) have a nut width of 1.75"

The bridge would be the only difference if you got 18mm spacing. The neck is the same.

I had an NYC with a 1 3/4" nut that was by far the best sadowsky 5 ive had. Really felt perfect to me. Not that 1 7/8 is bad, but that sleeker neck was awesome.

I was experimenting with some pickups today in my ms4. I usually run the stock HCs or lakland singles. Was looking for a little more mid punch, so i tried some duncan sjb-2s and dimarzio model js (in series).

The duncans are very fat sounding but i missed the immediacy of a lower impedance pickup.

The model js, well those are just nasty delicious. Really cool focussed rock sound, but i think they are overdriving the input of the onboard pre. Any advice on that appreciated, they sound great! And the sadowsky eq does great things with them.

Also, the adjustable pole pieces have me thinking about revisiting a uv70, if i can figure out the distortion issue.

Am I the only one who's not so big on the look of clear pick guards in combination with metal control plates? I personally don't like pick guards, clear or otherwise, over highly figured tops but can understand why some people would like the decreased distance between the string and body (for slapping especially).

I try to think of that look as a twist on a traditional look. It's sort of cool with that mindset.

I have played the new one out a few times. It's the real deal. I don't that it is the "best" one as that would be hard to claim without a reasonable A/B opportunity, but it is all "Sadowsky" for sure. It does everything I hoped it would.

The real kicker is it is the only EBG I have right now of any kind. I am using my NS Designs CR5M for a backup. I could pull it off on 95 percent of the stuff I am asked to do. If I get stuck with the other 5 percent, I'll fake it!! :)

I love my Sad 4 string P bass ( I just put Sadowsky flats on it for the first time and wow , love it ) I bought my 5 string bran new from them in 1999 it weighs less that 8 LBS , before chambering , swamp ash body , no VTC , all original in amazing shape , no dings plays great . Anyway what would you do ? I just hate to see it in the closet and some one should be rocking it.

Well like I thought I will probably never sell this 5 , I have been playing it again with our new band and it totally just works , it has been a blast playing it again and my hands have become real comphy on it again. Man I am glad I am not letting go. Both of these are just great and feel like home.

Was just looking at the DiMarzio website and noticed something interesting. They say Ultra J 5 string actually is more scooped than the 4 string version. Which is something many of us feel we hear in Sadowsky 4 vs 5 HCs.

Ultra Jazz Pair DP149
T:6
M:5
B:7

Ultra Jazz 5 Pair DP549
T:6
M:4.5
B:7.5

Area J 4 and 5 sets are the same (what some call bass-shy) at:

T:6
M:5.5
B:5.0

And the burly old beast Model J is:

T:4
Mid:5
Bass:6

Which makes them a bit more mid forward relative to bass response compared to ultra J, but less top (easily corrected with a treble boost). They definitely overdrive the input of the sadowsky pre unfortunately. They sound killer. I just bought a passive J to drop them into, and have sadowsky singles coming for my MS4.
