Whoa! If we're gonna compete, then handicaps and divisions must flow accordingly!

Variables:

Age
Income bracket
Proportion of income attributable to music performance
Married/single
# of kids
# of kids in college
# of dependent relatives living at home
# of bands playing in
Diversity of styles among the # of bands playing in
breadth of wardrobe/"look" requirements among the bands played in


I'm sure there are more categories, but these come immediately to mind...

Metros are not all that "humble". I've had a few and they are 100% legit and fully representative of the Sadowsky sound and playing experience. I wouldn't hesitate to own another if it was the config I was looking for.

And you deserve anything you can afford. All that really matters is that it inspires you to play... as long as you're buying it because you love it, and not because you want others to love you for it, it's all good.

Just keep in mind when you switch back and forth between tapered and non-tapered you not only have to change the saddle height, but also the position. Intonation will change.

IMHO, that's what the GAS-fueled bass quest is about. You keep buying and selling different makes until you find the one feels right, the one that enables you to grow musically. And you know it when you hit it.

For me, it was that Metro RV5. It was like...I'm home, I'm there, this works for me. This builder is tuned to the frequency of the tone in my head and the feeling of how how my hands work.

And then stage II GAS goes...well, now that I know exactly what boutique bass does it for me, when I get the dust Ima gonna get me anotha...brotha!

Uh...I don't want to think about stage III, right now...

Sadowsky strings are awesome, no reason to look elsewhere if you like what they are doing on your bass.

But if the silks are black then they are black label not blue!

The lights in my room were dim, I thought the silks were black. They're definitely blue.

You guys are right about these Sadowsky strings, I'm gonna stick with them because they still sound great after 6 months and I have no issues whatsoever.

FWIW, if DR strings are your favorite, you can order a DR four-string set plus a single DR Longneck B string. The Longneck is tapered. It's also stainless steel over a hex core, which essentially makes it a tapered steel Lo Rider. That worked out for me because my favorite DRs are Lo Rider steels.

But it sounds like you've made a good decision: Sadowsky strings are also awesome. And so is bassstringsonline.

This can't be emphasized enough. IME, the thicker the string, the worse it misbehaves when intonation is off. I suspect that more than a few "floppy B string" anecdotes have been generated by improper intonation.
