I did something pretty radical recently. I have a UV 70 that has a neck that I love. I decided to have a new body made for it. My goal was to create a hybrid Sadowsky/ vintage Fender! A great luthier in Chicago ,Phil Fensel, helped me find a really light weight dry piece of alder. He took computer images of the original body & did a CNC cut of the wood to make the new body. The new body is 1/8" thinner front to back than the original to be closer to 60s Fender spec. The bridge pick up is located exactly BETWEEN 60s & 70s location and I went with Reed James RJ Neo pickups. The bass is totally passive. This project is definitely not for the faint of (Sadowsky) heart but it came out exactly as I hoped it would and I LOVE the tone. All the goodness of a passive 60s Jazz, the bite of a 70s Jazz with just a touch of Sadowsky magic and completely hum & noise free.

Then Roger comes in and sincerely asks me what I think of the bass. I'm looking at the photos on the wall of the showroom: Patitucci, Lee, Newstead...and I think, man, Roger is asking me what I think. He earnestly cares what every single one of his clients thinks of his and his team's work. We talked a bit about the bass and what I thought of it. I think it's the best four string bass I've ever played. Soundclips will come tomorrow!

That may absolutely be the nicest looking Sadowsky that I've ever seen - my God. I love the sound of mahogany on my guitars (Les Paul and Taylor acoustic) but never heard a bass with a mahogany body. Ebony has to be a really good match on the fingerboard... Enjoy that bass - congrats.

Thanks so much for the high praise. I'm preaching to the choir here, but sadowsky basses are the best jazz bass you can buy. There may be others that equal, but none that surpass.

I agree with you on that. Funny, I've been playing my Sadowsky more or less exclusively since I got it (in 2005, I think). I recently got an MIA Fender Precision, after years of thinking about doing that. Its not a bad bass, but have to say I was a bit underwhelmed playing it back to back with the Sadowsky. There was a huge delta between the two in terms of workmanship and tone. Was thinking I needed to order an outboard Sadowsky pre, then was thinking I should've just waited and saved up for another Sadowsky...

I find that the Fender is its own thing. Of course the workmanship is superior on the sadowsky, but the playability and tone of the Fender is good for old school stuff. It will always be a Fender. Now the Sadowsky is more hi-fi, the weight of an NYC (mine is 7.4 lbs) is a godsend, and the pre-amp might be the best pre-amp on the market. I deliberately boosted bass and treble more than I should have on my sound test and there was no hiss, none, and no breakup, just pure zing and crystal clear high end. It's almost like I had a piezo in the thing!

Yep - that's why I got it. Thought it might fit better with the old-school country band I play in. Maybe it will shine more in the band context than it did solo in my living room - or maybe I just need to dial it in...

Sorry I'm so late to the party! I've had a Sadowsky as my go-to bass for the past 4 years almost. I've had a Ultra Vintage P/J 5 and a Standard 5 in the past (had to sell due to finances) but am still playing my Modern 5. I can't ever see myself getting rid of this bass! It's absolutely amazing! Beautiful and sounds great! Here's my contribution to the club :)

I really liked this video, she sings beautifully and you do a great job. Oh! and very nice Sadowsky.
