Club Sadowsky!!!

On an unrelated topic.....

I have been on a haiaitus from gigging lately waiting for the right opportunity. Had many calls but nothing that I really wanted to do. Well, the phone rang again and this time the opportunity was right. A Foreigner/Journey Tribute act.
I have an audition on Monday night. My Purple Sadowsky Standard 4 will be there and it looks like a good fit!

The guys know me from my last Journey band so they already have been asking me for pics and a bio for the website. And, asked if I can do a gig on 3/13. Hmm, is Monday an audition or my first practice with these guys??

I acquired the NYC P in a trade plus cash deal for a PJ Metro. I thought long and hard before the deal because the Sadowsky preamp and pickups in that bass were outstanding. When the NYC arrived I was kicking myself and wondering what I got into. Though they were both ash/maple the tone of the NYC was not doing it for me. Maybe understanding why I was the third owner in a fairly short time? Swapped out the pickup and IMHO it got better. The change to all passive put the icing on the cake for this particular bass. It sounds as awesome as it looks. When I get my next Sadowsky it will be active and I would be very happy if I didn't have to swap anything. They are all so different, yet so wonderful.

Jeez, who else are they auditioning, Ross Valory and Randy Jackson? They know they want you, they're just playing hard to get. My guess, anyway. Break a leg!

That's exactly what I did. I pulled the preamp from my P a while ago and I'm happy as a clam. My metro P is a TANK and I love it, superb build quality and a wonderful neck. I just got some Bare Knuckle pickups that are made in England that I'm going to try next.

I have a Sadowsky pre in my Lull M5V. For a reason I have yet been unable to identify the battery drains as if the bass is constantly plugged in. I have another preamp (Sadowsky) to install but, in the meantime, have been using the pre in passive mode exclusively. Funnily enough I haven't been missing the active EQ at all (yay VTC) and, funnily enough, the bass still sounds like a Sadowsky.

My NYC MV4 Sadowsky J bass sounds great in passive mode. I use it passive at home as I usually practice with headphones. The passive signal seems to be more headphone friendly. I use the preamp when I play with my bands though. Maybe I will try it passive at my next rehearsal (although I think Sadowsky recommend passive mode as a dead battery work-around rather than a regular setting. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong on that though.)

I'm back!

After owning a MV5, a UV5, a M5-24 and two NYC 5 strings and selling them all (playing only passive basses in the meantime) and letting go my SA200 last year, only the Sadowsky Blue steels remained in my stable. Here I am back with an absolutely great MV5 in my fav color combination: black and maple
It is an early Metro which I upgraded with SCs and the VTC, weighing only 3,8kg (under 9lbs) and punchy as hell! It is easily one of the best Sados I ever laid my hands on.

The question of durability of okoumé wood came up in another thread. Since Sadowsky uses okoumé as a substitute for mahogany I figured I'd pose the question: have any of you with "mahogany" Sadowskys found the body wood to be any less "durable" than you would have expected?

I don't understand taking the preamp out. Isn't that the secret sauce? My NY P arrives tomorrow!
