Club Sadowsky!!!

Nicely done! Metro's IMO have been consistent from day 1. I have never owned a bad Sadowsky(and I've owned more than a few ;) ). Speaking of which... I am GAS'ing big time for another RV4 right now. Might have to make that happen soon.

Thanks guys! I am so stoked! I cannot wait for it to get here. I read in this thread somewhere that the fretboard on the RV series is actually Morado (pau ferro) not necessarily rosewood.. Is that the case with a 2007 model? If so I would be in heaven. My absolute favorite body wood & fingerboard combo is alder/pau ferro.

you are right....and lucky: Morado for all the dark fingerboards on Metros.

I set the pickup pan just off center vtc off 30 %bass boast 25% treble boost and very noticeable DR low riders Ss

If you posted clips, people could more easily offer insight and suggestions.

I slap a lot in one project using a NYC 5 JJ with h/c pickups and LaBella stainless strings. "Focused" has so much to do with the amp/cab/room and your right hand that I can't really speak to that, but I can say that this combination works great for me although I've had tighter lows from other basses. To me the Sadowsky sound, even from the outboard preamp using other basses, is a warm softer low end with presence but not a hard tight punch per se. And I mean that in a good way.

Anyway, if not going through a PA I have the bass up about 10% and treble to about 50% (strings are old) and the passive tone off just a tad. Pickups 50/50 or panned a bit towards the bridge which I keep set closer to the strings than the neck pickup for a bit more focus/punch. If through the PA I never boost the preamp more than about 15% *max* unless the sound man knows exactly when and why I might do so. Nothing worse for the overall mix and for bass not being clearly heard than boosted lows through a PA, especially if you're wailing on the strings inna slap stylie.

Funk, reggae, slap, etc. is a style and a mind set, not an EQ setting.

In all my years of playing Sadowsky basses live, I've only used one setting and thats pre on, no bass boost, no treble boost, no vtc. My Standard 4s always sound great with this setting and a basic flat eq on my rig with a little boost in low mids around the 150-200 Hz. HC pups and Blue Label Stainless Steel strings.

Lately, Ive been using the TC SpectraComp with a setting that increases the bass and smooths out the treble. Sounds killer while keeping the Sadowsky tone. Of course, most of my tone is coming from my right hand!

I recently tried a set of Dunlop Super Brights on my Metro rosewood/alder WL5 with singles. They give a bit more definition on the B string, but aren't clangy (as the name might lead you to expect). I don't have a lot of playing time on them yet--only a three hour rehearsal and some woodshedding--but I'll put them to work on this weekend's gigs. IMHO they have an especially nice tone for slap.

I don't know if I missed it, but does any one have any info on the new bridge pickup going on the Sadowsky Singlecut?

I read a short note on it on the official site and I just saw a post on the Facebook Page with some bodies being prepped. They look like Fender Roscoe Beck pickup routes.

One more day before the RV5 arrives! :) I'm really looking forward to it. Today is going to be a long day, lol. It looks like it's been sold on here once or twice before coming to me. I do appreciate being able to see the history (kind of) of a used purchase. TB is so cool in this way. The countdown is on... :bassist:

Just ordered my second NYC, and will receive my first ever NYC around July... I was absolutely SURE that I'd hold at my self-imposed 3-bass limit (2 MTDs and NYC 5-24FL) but... I missed having a PJ5 tonal option, and I've always been partial to black/maple, so here goes:

My new (used) Metro RV5 arrived yesterday. It's a 2007, serial M1775 and was upgraded with the Nordy-wound single coils. I bought her from TB'er bbjonz , and I think it belonged to GroovinOnFunk before that. It's a freaking beauty. It's been played over the years, but it's in really good condition. I gave her a cleaning and a setup before rehearsal last night and it's just butter. I didn't get a chance to replace the battery so I played passive last night and was blown away by how well it sat in the mix. Notes were clear, even, and it just sang. I've been wanting a do-it-all workhorse and I think with the VTC and the killer preamp, I have found it. I'm loving the light weight and it just feels like home. I've wanted one of these for years and I can't believe I actually own one. Worth every penny and more.

Anyway, enough babbling.. here's a couple of mandatory crappy cell pics, I had lousy lighting
