I just received my Metro HPJ 4 and Im kinda weirded out by the fact that the pickup selector is "backwards"- roll forward and the J is on, roll backward and the P engages! Checked inside and the wiring is clean no room to spin it around..and when the volume is up and the active is on if you turn the treble and bass boosts to zero there is NO Volume at all.. Im not crazy about it.. Is it my Bass? Its a used item that I just received..can anyone speak of this as the same with theirs??
That is not right. With bass and treble at zero it should sound like a shinier version of the passive sound.
Ive never had a bass with a blend knob work other than roll forward for P pickup and backward towards bridge for Jazz pickup...
Is this a Sadowsky thing or did i get something that may have had some work done incorrectly??
Pickles was spot-on in their replies. Bass and treble knobs are boost only so at zero the eq should be flat but still have regular volume. Something's not right there for sure. Did you check the battery? I would email/call Sadowsky Guitars for advice. They'll be glad to help.
The "backwards" pickup blend knob is normal for Sadowsky's but simple to switch. You just need to switch the 2 white (Hot) wires on the blend pot.
I did it on both of mine and was a quick soldering job. Good luck.

It has been one month since I received this amazing bass, my first ever Sadowsky:
I have to say that I love it even more now. I've got about a half dozen gigs on it and quite a bit of practice time. It feels like home now. Coming from MusicMan basses, I'm used to excellent build quality. What has really surprised me (in addition to the good look of the bass) is the tone. This bass sounds so good, and it has the tone I've been looking for/missing. The pickup blend makes this such a versatile bass. My favorite tone is passive, with the pickup blend a little toward the neck pickup and the VTC rolled off just a bit. Sorry if I sound like a broken record on that! It is so nice to feel like I'm home, this is the bass I've been hunting all these years.

That is a magnificent looking bass and I have no doubt it is the best of the best! One day I might see about getting a 5 string Sadowsky, similar to yours. (Ash/Maple)

Just got a deal on a RV5 which should arrive this week. I owned a US-made Standard 5 and Vintage 5 many years ago (but never a Metro), and they were unquestionably the best Jazz Basses I've owned, so I'm looking forward to getting back in the club...
That's sweet! Are they any other differences with a "regular" NYC than the satin finish? Guessing it has the Hipshot licensed tuners, but other than that? What kind of case/bag?
So I tried the new Sadowsky at rehearsal last night........now I have to admit, I USED TO THINK that it was all hype when I would hear guys say "theres just something about the way they sit in the mix" or "you have to play one in a live setting to fully appreciate it". Well, I was wrong, because those were the first things that popped into my head. The thing that most impressed me was the clarity and the fullness of the notes on the D and G strings. I play with a loud drummer and two loud guitar players and I finally feel like I'm not fighting for my place in the sonic landscape....
