A Sadowsky with roasted maple neck and board is high on my wish list. Sooooooo sexy. drool But yeah, the price point gets way up there, especially when you add figured wood into the equation. Many pennies!

I played that bass and it felt so good and the tone was amazing thru the SA200. I doubt you'll find a figured top at this price point though! 15% is a good amount off on a NYC!

Lol I guess I wasn't very clear. When I say "this price point", I mean a truckload of money. I realize that'll be closer to $6,000 than $4,000. I want a birdseye maple board, too.

This. Once I realized what the dream bass would cost to configure, I bought a used NYC and had it repainted and will have the neck refin-ed shortly. I feel better having saved the extra few grand actually.

The problem with this eminently logical line of reasoning is that, at least in my case, one ends up playing a Metro and having trouble justifying the NYC. That's the kind of thing that keeps me up at night. LOL

I love and apreciate the beauty of the incredible figured tops but if I hit the lotto I suspect the first NYC I'd order would be a cool Fender color like Sea Foam Green with a matching headstock and maybe a birds eye board. I personally don't like walking into most gigs with a highly figured expensive looking bass, ecspecially a new gig. Lowered expectations are a good thing when you play at my level, horay for the metro's.

Plus there are more than a few gigs out there where you'd rather take the Timex than the Rolex, less likely to atract the wrong kind of attention in some neighborhoods.

This crosses my mind on every out of town gig I play. I haven't had any problems yet (knock on figured top wood); I kinda figure that to the uninformed the fancy tops may attract attention at first but the lack of "Fender" on the headstock may cause some gear thieves to assume that it's less valuable and worthwhile to fence over the guy that had a standard Fender bass.

It also helps that I'm 100% sober at every gig, am a bald, 6ft, 260 lb, bearded and tattoo'ed guy who routinely gets mistaken for a bouncer at every single bar I play.

That one is a classic. When I think of all of Roger's work over the past 15 or so years, that config is the one that just screams Sadowsky.

IMO some of this depends on the player and how closely you do or don't tend to watch your gear. I know players who just tend to pay more attention to hanging with folks after the gig and don't watch their gear so closely. And that's where I've seen cats losing their axe. I've played in some pretty rough and tumble biker dives over the years, and have NEVER seen any issues with gear being threatened overtly at load out or whatever. Overly imbibed patrons falling into the stage area is another matter. Anyhow, I'll take any of my axes into any of the clubs I'll ever play. That's their purpose. OTOH, I can surely see issues with tour situations where you are unable to watch your gear. That's what well set up beaters are for.

Thanks! I remember when it hit on the Stock Update. I couldn't take my card out fast enough! The Carmel Burst is a Sadowsky Classic. Even Roger commented last week on how the top was stunning!

Some things (especially in the TB & Sadowsky community) were truly meant to be. So happy for Joey to be, not just a bass brother, but a good & trusted friend. Kudos on your visit, awesome photos, and congrats on your reacquisition.

Gorgeous bass. I had one of these about 9 years ago. NYC with a highly figured quilt in caramel burst with a flame maple fingerboard. One of the top 3 basses I regret selling...

Speaking of re acquiring basses... Last week I bought this MV5-WL back after selling it last fall when I ran into a financial bind. It's been a really busy year though and I'm ecstatic to have this one back! Ash/Maple, transparent black finish. Weighs only 8.2 lbs! Played it on 3 gigs over the weekend and of course it killed.

I thought about the clear pickguard for my P/J 5, but I decided that I wanted the universal route (and I have pickguards for both regular and reverse P setup).
