That's a beauty! I thought they wouldn't do a matching headstock with a maple board.
Thank you. I have heard they don't prefer matching with maple but they had no issue doing this for me.
Oh my... the eagle has landed...
Just a quick picture on the kitchen table before dinner....which was late, because I went off and played this bad boy for about 45 minutes.
Kept the box unopened until my wife got home, and we opened it together. The instrument is certainly marvelous; but, she is even more so.
Anyhow, where to start? This is the first NYC Sadowsky I've had hands on since, oh, 1992, when I had a chance to play one at Elderly Instruments. Since then I have gigged three different Metros rather extensively. So, I thought I knew what to expect. Still, this instrument is just so much nicer than I could have even hoped for. I did know exactly what to expect from the electronics package. And, that's what I got. I had no idea how awesome the construction would be. Gahhhh. Props to the good folks in the shop who create such wonderful instruments.
When ordering such an expensive custom instrument, there are always those lingering questions about what I might have gotten wrong. In this case: nothing. The bass is exactly what I was after. And, I have to say that while I have been unsure about the chambering thing, I trusted Roger's guidance on this and am glad I did. The bass is glorious. Perfect. I plan to gig the crap out of it the rest of my gigging days.

What pickups are those? They look like Duncan Quarter Pounders? Cool bass. Congrats!
They are Delano JMVC4's. Superb pickups in many ways and are absolutely sauce with the Sadowsky preamp. Well, my sauce, anyhow.

Congratulations! The box-opening is certainly exciting - so nice that you got to enjoy it with your wife. Many a player has been forced to enjoy that step (thoroughly) in private, tuck the bass away without fanfare and several months later when the wife spots it - "Oh that? I've had it for ages... Thinking of selling it actually."
My NBD isn't quite as spectacular as the NYC, just mentioned above, but after playing for a few days and using it at practice, my Metro RV5 really fits the bill. I had a Roscoe for awhile but could never bond with it or find a proper use for it so I traded it in for the RV5. It plays really nice and sounds great so I'm happy with it.

It reflects everything I have come to understand about Jazz Basses and my own playing idiosyncrasies; and Roger &Co pulled it off to perfection.Yes, you deserve your new NYC Sadowsky!

Pretty busy this morning, but will try to get some better shots this afternoon. The appearance is pretty understated for a natural finish bass, which was one objective, and requires better lighting than I had last night.

It's all about the player, not the bass. Ain't nothin shabby about the Metros. I've been completely happy with all three I've worked with and still have a 5, which is off at Pat Wilkins for some mods. It's going nowhere other than gigs when it gets home. Closest bass to a Fender Jazz in a 5 string format I've ever played.
True...but it doesn't hurt when the instrument doesn't restrict you, physically or sonically.
Right. I mean we are always looking for the next best modification to the bass or better instrument. I've pretty much decided that there are trade offs and no absolutely perfect instrument; which may partially explain some of the flipping that goes on. You do the best you can. The Metros hit most of the boxes, depending on the individual bass; and you really have to go all in to do much better. Heck, I still dig my Fender parts bass, which has Roger's preamp in it. I could probably be just fine with that and no other. OTOH, you only go around this Merry Go Round once.

I'm interested to know how you came to settle on Delano pups versus the alternatives - some obvious, others less so.
