I had a satin in orange and I liked it ok, but understand those that don't dig the look. The sunburst and the flame maple are a very different vibe. Really for me the defining moment was at some point after playing for awhile I went to shift the other bass and my right forearm stuck to the bass. Not like glue, but I was reminded why all my other basses are a clear satin finish. I just don't like a gloss finish. Once I work up a nice sweat it is fine, but sometimes that doesn't happen.

It is a different look, but reminds me somewhat of a very aged nitro finish. Plus I don't have to polish it :D

This is our Deluxe Satin Series, which is exclusive to our best dealers. Same models and specs as our regular satin series, but with 5A flame maple tops. Available in sunbursts and vintage tint.

While I loved the sound of the Modern, I realized why I've sold the last could I bought - the leg cutout is just a bit too far back and deep, and I don't like where it positions seated. The cutout is about the same place on the 21-fret basses but it is flatter so I can slide the bass back. Also helps with neck balance.

Anywho, all three basses impressed which is saying something because historically I'm not an ash/maple guy, nor a JJ guy. But I decided to embrace a bass that was in front of me rather than ordering up something. If one of them spoke to me, I'd buy it. Narrowed it down to a Metro natural and the Satin. Went home to eat and ponder, then slogged back through traffic to play them both on a strap and figure out which was coming home. This one won. Gig tomorrow and Tuesday so it'll get a trial by fire. It pretty much came down to the fact that I don't like the feel of gloss finishes on my right arm as they tend to get sticky. This on is 8.2 lbs. The natural was 8.8.

Very cool. The satin finish sunburst really works -- That's a great looking bass. Good luck on the gig. I've never felt disappointed with any of my Sadowskys on a gig. They just work.

Today's hit - doing yeoman's work with the Brazilian trio at the Farmer's Market in a heat wave. Forgot to record, was swapping between the SatinD and fretless Fodera (hiding in the gig bag, as was the drummer). I finally started getting the hang of it in the 3rd set. I've never been much of a JJ kinda guy (I'm in the PJ camp) but there are a couple of tones that I like when others play it. Was able to dial in great slap tone even though I'm not a big slap kinda guy either. Also about 20-30% on the bass and VTC around 50% with a bit of mid boost at the amp got me where I wanted to be. Each bass I have speaks differently and this one has an interesting B-string. Some of the others I tried had an inherently stronger B, but this on will actually take dynamics really well. I can pluck it pretty hard, particularly near the bridge, and the note will jump. I can also slap it without it being overbearing. The other thing I'm getting used to are the ergos, and I need to tweak pickup and string height a hair as I'm a bit anal about my setups. I also swapped to 40-120 nickel strings so the bass is settling in. That said, was surprisingly stable in the heat while the TI flats on my fretless required constant tuning.

I will say that I love the feel of the satin finish. That is win.

Feels like a weight is off my chest... I've been wanting to do this for some time and couldn't mount the courage to pull the trigger.

It's "significant other approved" as well, can't beat that! ;) :thumbsup:

One of your past posts regarding the assurance Peter gave you about the return policy put me over the edge. Waiting blows, but hang in there!!

I went for an NYC Satin myself. Peter gave me a very generous (shorter than expected) turnaround time. He recalled only one other customer ordering the configuration I did, so at least its a little unique.

Actually, Peter has never mentioned a wait/turn-around time for my build. I'm strictly going by the general wait times listed on the site.

I'm glad you got a shorted than expected turn-around time from Peter. Maybe the website wait times are padded and it could be that my build time is shorted than I calculated.

End result? Happy customers... works every time...

... well, almost every time... a good business will try taking care of every speed bump, and I can only imagine how impossible that must be, especially these days... you know... 'technology'.
