Club Sadowsky!!!

Don't think I've posted pictures of my baby basses, these were made for me celebrating the births of my children. The CAO was made for my first son, the Firemist Gold for my twins... when they turn five (2 years and 20 days) I'll order another, probably a single cut with the new 60/70's pup.

Need advice, I'm looking for a high quality bass stand for my Sadowsky WL. I just purchased a Hercules stand but it doesn't sit right with the WL. All the weight of the bass is on the D-tuner (see photo) Also have some Ultimate stands but after a while the height locking mechanism won't hold the weight of the bass. Does anyone have recommendations....Thanks

You’re a lucky man, usually with the arrival of each kid it’s another bass leaving the house

I've found that if I release the D-tuner, the lever will sit within the Hercules and only the headstock wood will rest on the foam.

As @TedH stated, the way to deal with that is to release the lever before you put it in the stand.

Unfortunately, I find that levering the E string every time you rack it tends to make the E string life a whole lot shorter. Which I believe is due to fatigue damage in the string core at the break point on the saddle...

Anyhow, for that reason, I just use a cheap OnStage cradle stand for the basses with this issue. I know, I hate those stands too.

FWIW, my NYC has a combination of an apparently modified lever and careful arrangement of the gear on the headstock, such that it doesn’t have this issue. Interesting, no? Just goes to show the little things the NYC Shop is paying attention to.

Yes, I did release it and it sits as it should. Unfortunately that's a PITA and I can just see doing a show and forgetting to lock it back into position. (You are also 100% correct about string life) On the newer models they are using smaller tuners so from what I can tell (as you verified) it's now not an issue. I'll use the Hercules stand for my new WL which should arrive in Feb. Guess, I'll just stick with the Ultimate Stands for now which BTW the bass sits in perfectly, unfortunately they are flimsy and the defective locking mechanisms don't last. I've had to put a screw on everyone I own locking it in place because they start to slide down from the weight of the bass. Just can't collapse them down all the way down now!

It's not a great recommendation, but do you use the d-tuner? I never did on mine so I had Sadowsky send a standard tuner to me to swap it out. It took a couple of ounces off the weight which was my goal.

I use it all the time especially in songs like Uptown Funk or other songs that are in the key of D
