Adjust the truss rod and you’re done! You have no way to know that your relief was ever the same as it was when it left the shop because necks can change relief due to climate. Learning how to measure and adjust relief to the proper spec is the only way to make sure you have the intended setup. Just don’t touch the bridge saddles and you’ll still have the fresh from the shop magic intact.

Yeah it takes 5 seconds as well. I know how to do it, just spent time recording instead yesterday. Lol. Tone change is more about the flats in this case but i get what you mean.

Ill play these for a while of course. Chromes are amazing strings but i have been curious about the new sadowsky flats or a set of labellas.

I really like the new Sadowsky Blue Flats but I didn't have experience with them before the change. Great string that keeps getting better in my opinion.

IMO and IME the Sadowsky flats are "just right" tension. less stiff than Chromes. Similar to LaBellas. Less floppy than TIs

My favorite flats are the LaBella LTF's. I'm crazy about them. With that said, the Sadowsky flats are incredible. More tension than the LaBella flats, so that would be a consideration. Not at all too taught though.

Thanks all. I am going to start with Labella, since they are such tried and true classics. I also believe those are the strings in the Roots clip I posted, and I love that sound. It is pretty close to the Chromes I have on now. I just want something a little lower in tension, and I want to try that ultra smooth polished feel.

I went with the .43-.104 as my Sadowsky came with his .105 nickels and the set up was nice.

I also tweaked the truss rod a bit today. 1/4 turn got the action back where I wanted without any buzz on the 1st fret.

Flats on a modern bass though - wow. This seriously inspiring tone.

Just for some actual real world data, when I run it through a spectrum in the studio, I still have good harmonic information from 1k to 10k with the tone rolled back about 25%. So basically what that means for me is that I can get a natural roll off with flats and still have note definition. This is opposed to a 75% tone roll off with Roto Sounds on a prior recording where there is literally no information above 1k at all.

With TI flats the difference between fresh and 18 months old strings was dramatic on my RS4.

Yes of course. I change my Chromes every 8-12 months. The ones I threw on have about 3 months of play on them. After about 6 months, they lose some of that crispy upper mid and by 12 months they are too thuddy for my personal taste.

I have no problem changing flats once or twice a year to keep some of that top end definition that I like.

PS, I just checked out your band. Real good stuff man. Nice work.

I wonder if someone could help me out. I recently installed an onboard Sadowsky pre in a bass. The thing is killing batteries, and I have no idea why. Having owned 5 different Sadowsky basses and have a Sadowsky pre installed already in another bass, I have never run into this problem. Obviously I know not to leave it plugged in etc etc. Batteries are fresh high end alkalines so I know that is not the issue. I'm talking 2 weeks for a dead battery. Is it possible something is not right at the jack end? Everything looks fine there, but maybe I'm missing something. Any ideas?

Just a SWAG; but it sounds like the battery thinks a plug is in in the jack at all times. I would try checking for current flow from the battery with and without the cord plug installed.

Other than that, check with the shop.

That is what I was thinking though I'm not sure how it would.

There might be a stray wire or other conductive material bridging the two leads across the jack.

I had an Ibanez SR805 from the factory with a similar problem...

... thing is, the barrel jack was itself bad, so until I replaced it, I wasn't aware of the miswired jack...

... in other words, I replaced the barrel jack, wire for wire, and voila, solved one problem, only to find another...

... they had the two black wires on the stereo jack swapped, in essence allowing the battery to drain straight to ground, whether anything was plugged into it, or not...

... recheck your wiring.

Another thing to check.. Make sure the jack is isolated from touching inside the bass body. I had a bass where one of the lugs of the jack was touching the conductive paint on the routed channel for the jack. It was shorting to ground.
