Not exactly apples/apples, maybe--but I've got a Metro WL5 and two NYC WL5s, and the neck profiles and string spacing feel the same to me. Never stopped to measure, though...

Maybe I used to know this.
It feels like the NYC 5 I just got is 19mm string spacing, and the Metro MV5 I've had forever now is 18.
Is that right?
And maybe the NYC neck is a tad wider?
I looked for this on the Sadowsky site, for like an NYC v Metro FAQ, and couldn't find it.

AFAIK, the 5’s are 100% 19mm spacing across the board.

Main reason I don’t have one. And, before anyone gets going about the 18mm bridge option, the string spacing itself is not my issue.

Yeah, the nut width is narrow. But AFAIK the string spacing at the bridge is standard: 19 mm for fivers, 20 mm for four-strings.

I've noticed some variance in neck thickness/feel that added up to a LOT, in the (TOO MANY) NYC's and Metros I've swapped, but I'm thinking that the 18mm spacing on a 5'er is kind of a rare bird.

I recently posted a fast review on two Metro Express 4's and definately felt a difference in the widths of the neck. Roger was very quick to point out they are CNC machined identically. So super sensitive or in my head?

Chef - it may have a different distance from body to strings (standard vs vintage) that could be affecting the feel. They started making the standard neck pockets deeper but I’m not sure when that change happened. Strings and setup could contribute... looks like a great bass!

I thought that was one of the WL features, was a neck just slightly smaller than a standard Sadowsky...

I saw that on The Facebooks this morning. I've never seen a quilted maple top finished like that, and I think that's just really, really nice.

So; you were right.
The heel portion of the body on the NYC is ~7/8"; NYC neck heel itself is ~ 1"
The heel portion of the body on the Metro is ~ 1 1/8"; Metro neck heel is ~ 7/8"

So NYC is overall about 1/8" shallower overall, there.
I don't know if the neck depth and contour in the playing areas is different on down the neck, and that's what I'm feeling, or, if I'm still making it all up that they feel a tad bit different somehow ;--)
It's not a bothersome diff, and they both play well.

NYC 5 string necks are definitely different than metro necks. They're carve a little thinner and have a little less "shoulder." I greatly prefer the NYC necks to the Metro's. It's interesting that the new Metro Express basses supposedly have the same carve as the NYC's, using the same CNC program whereas the Metro's use a different program.
