The shoulder is the meat on either side of the center of the back of the neck, between where the fingerboard starts and the center. Visualize a V neck, the portion that is carved away to give the V neck shape is the shoulder. Obviously there is not enough of the shoulder carved away on a Sadowsky to make it a V neck but it's the same idea.

Understood. I'd call that "contour," but I'm not super versed in all the appropriate Luthier Dude Lingo.
I'd say that the Sadowsky neck contour in both NYC and Metro are both a comfortable shallow C that I like.

Shoulder is the term I've heard used the most from all the builders I've talked to but it may not be an agreed upon description. I used to build and carving the neck was my favorite part.
I don't care for the metro necks at all. Almost all of the NYC necks I've played have been great.

I've only had the NYC for a day. I've had the Metro for years.
I've not a/b'd them side by side and thoughtfully compared that.
It feels like the NYC is maybe a shallower contour, but, see the line right above.

One problem you will find with getting a NYC is that you will want another. I was so happy with my metro and then I added my NYC and I've been obsessed with adding a 2nd NYC ever since.
My metro 5 is amazing but my NYC is just such a step up.

I have a 2004 Metro that I bought on Ebay...the owner won it from some Bass Player Mag (forget which one) and didn't even play.
I won the bid.
It was signed by Jason Newsted and Voivox.
It was Black/Black PG , Maple board with a doodle on the PG and sigs on the body.
I erased all but Jason's sig on the back of the headstock and replaced the black PG with a white for a tuxedo look.
This bass has been my go-to for many a year. Lots of tours, sessions & TV appearances. Great sounding and reliable! I probably shouldn't have erased the PG, but I was playing country/pop tour and I couldn't play that gig with all the sigs and artwork... I know prob heresy to all Metallica fans...I apologize.
The neck on the 2004 is thicker than the 2009 Standard Metro that I also own.
I have owned 1 NYC PJ and 6 MIJ J Sadowskys. Two were MIJ before Metro line.

Dude, that’s amazing! Jason is one of my top three favorite bassists and influences, that must be so cool to have a Sadowsky that he signed...not to mention a “doodle” from Jason, who’s now a successful artist!

Another neck shape question...
Is the neck shape different between the normal Satin JJ5 and the Verdine 5? It feels like there is slightly more "meat" to the V5 neck but I can't really tell. I get such a fat tone on the V5 maybe I'm just imagining the neck is thicker too..

Any of you Sadowsky club members interested in doing a monthly Sadowsky bass raffle????? We could do it a couple of different ways. We could have a monthly raffle and the money gets sent to Sadowsky in your name to go towards a new build or we could use an online poll to select a recently build bass to be raffles. We could let Roger use a random number generator between zero and the number of entries. We would need someone to collect the money via PayPal and keep track of it. This person would need paid for their services so we might have to sell a couple extra tickets to pay them every time. I just thought it would be fun. Thoughts please.
