Thought it was time for a Satin Family Pic! I've been so in love with the Satin Modern 5 I picked up recently that my J-bass has been getting VERY lonely. The Modern 5 tone is super punchy, full, not flabby. I find myself shying away from the compressor with this bass, it's tight as skinny jeans on a lineman anyway. I was a little apprehensive regarding the 24 fret neck - my only real experience with 24 frets is with 35" scale. Gusto and 35" scale are not very good friends, lol. I'm finding the tighter fret spacing on the Modern has made some of the faster stuff much easier. The mid forward sound was something I was chasing with my J-bass - seems like forever - as I primarily play over/around the back pickup anyway.
Anyone here have a ramp or thumb rest between the pups on their Modern? Kinda thinking about having something like that made...

I absolutely love it. I use it primarily with my reggae band. Tons of booty. As far as the PG, I could not get used to the extra "space" without the pickguard. It felt weird, looked off... I think it was more of a mental thing than an actual "issue". Lisa was kind enough to get me squared away though.

I have no experience with 5 string PJs, but do you still get that P bass thump when you solo the P on these?
Single ply, Lisa had a few recommendations, the matte black was perfect! I've only owned one P-bass, that was over 25 years ago so I wouldn't be the best one the answer the rest of your question. Long time J-bass guy.
I do have my blend knob just barely past center favoring the P pickup. Roll off that VTC and I get a thick thump for reggae.
Hey Keith, I spent some visits in Crested Butte years ago, when your band was beginning. Sad to say I never went out to check you guys out, I was always busy busy with other stuff. I’ve got a tender place in my heart for CB. Such a great town.

My 2c on pickguards ... I find it odd, especially on expensive high-end instruments, that the pickguard is affixed before selling. Unless it's covering up a route of course.
Respectfully suggest taking pics of it on, if that's what sells most, but leave it up to the eventual buyer if they want it attached. Can't stand them myself, even if there's a control plate.
