My vote is for the JJ pups as the go to, all around, must have, number one, first choice, best pick, bass for any gig!!!

Quick question for the group: I keep going back and forth between jazz basses with P/J and J/J pickups in them.

A P shape with P/J is more valuable to my mind than a J with P/J. Stick with J/J in a Jazz.

I have a NYC - Ash body with quilted maple top, a real looker. And it plays so darn well too.

But over the years one Sadowsky that has haunted me does not have a fancy top - it's just an ash body. But there is something about this bass that talks to my soul. I wish it were mine.

FWIW I would call that a fancy top. Might not be in the ultra-boutique way, but it's amazingly beautiful.

I've always been a sucker for ash bodies; that one's exceptional. Mine's not at that level, but folks I know have always called this bass "the pretty one:"
