The even P/J mix sounds a bit nasally or phase-ey solo’d, but, I’ve found in a mix it’s pretty dang sweet.

Curious to know if you've set the pickups exactly to these specs (in bold)?

Pickup Height:

(bass fretted at the last fret)

Under the "G" string:
Neck = 6/64"
Bridge = 6/64"

Under the "E/B" string
Neck = 7/64"
Bridge = 7/64"

PJs:
P Pickup (Reverse or standard):
G String = 6/64"
A String = 8/64"
B String = 7/64"

J pickup :
Treble = 5/64"
Bass = 6/64"

I had a helluva time getting the blended tone to work for me, until I nailed those measurements. Exactly as you state: a weird phase to the notes.

Now I love the blended tone. Low-mid thickness that works for about 90% of everything.

Side note: when I roll off the VTC, favor the P Pickup, and boost the bass, it's very much like an 808 Synth in the sheer girth of it. Use with caution.

Because I never get tired of saying it with the PJ5:

• The blend knob is my mid-knob
• The VTC is my 'Motown to Marcus' knob.

It’s still how it came from Sadowsky. I’ve never checked it. I think its a P/J even blend “thing” as I’ve heard it with other basses. I Think Roger has said that a reverse P/J eliminates the phasing.

I forgot to add to the listing that it comes with a brand new pick guard with the plastic still on it. I’ll add that ASAP. It’s a nice metro.

Roger hooked me up. There’s been a few and this is my second. If it’s not actually aluminum (I’m confident it is) then he is a wizard with tin foil beyond his woodworking skills.

I always thought that people’s obsession with uber-lightweight basses was over the top... Until my recent lower back injury.

I'm one of those with the obsession. Now it's neck and back, so even seated I need something light. Working towards a Metro Express 5. I have an 8.5-lb and 8.0-lb from other makers. Most everything there, but need that something extra special.
