Club Sadowsky!!!

Brought the Modern 5 to a punk gig last night. She's in good hands @ElMon - fear not . We happened to be the, ahem, "elder" of the bands on the bill - I was approached by some "young 'uns" after the set who had many compliments about my tone. This was my favorite interaction and thought I would share...

"Man, that bass sounds great, like an Ibanez! Is that an Ibanez? It looks like an Ibanez I used to own..."

I believe that's the new marketing campaign for Sadowsky - "Sounds just like an Ibanez!"

... but someone in a dive bar thinks your basses sound as good as Ibanez.

@gustobassman @ElMon I had a similar reaction from the guitarists I was playing with, when I returned excitedly from my November vacation to share that I visited Sadowsky’s shop. Crickets and confused expressions.

Later when I asked on TB, I learned Sadowsky guitars seem to be more favored by jazz players.

I guess that makes sense because Sadowsky Electric Guitars seem to be primarily arch top jazz guitars.

But I guarantee you if Sadowsky made stratocaster style guitars, the blues and rock guys would eat them up.

Perhaps, but the guys never played anything Stratocaster-like. Every guitar they played had double humbuckers.

Fine. Brands like Sadowsky and Alembic can be bassists’ secrets.

Actually, the guitarists loved my FBass BN6 best and they were shocked to learn there are companies that only make basses.

I believe the T and S style are NYC only, with pricing to match of course. If they become more popular, then perhaps Metro (etc) versions can be offered, and more guitarists will be able to join the Sadowsky party.

Oh those are really nice! I’ve never noticed the Strat style Sadowsky Guitars before.

Did a bunch of gigs several years ago with a guy slinging a Jim Hall Signature Sadowsky ... and OH ... MY ... JEEBUS.

Just angelic, bell-like tones all the way up the fretboard. Something that doesn't get talked about enough, and this applies to Roger's basses of course:

If you hear an instrument built by a true luthier that is made to the same standards as a master violin maker (I'd put guys like Roger/Mike Tobias/Vinnie Fodera/Ken Smith on that level) it really does make a difference on the bandstand.

That guy on the Jim Hall was good enough to make ANYTHING sound good, but interestingly enough, I wasn't as inspired when he brought out his Gibson Archtop.

That Jim Hall made me swing harder and comp differently as he soloed.

I feel the same way about my Sadowsky basses. The tone coming out of the speakers is so satisfying that it makes me play differently, and my band-members (their words) are hearing 'what bass is supposed to sound like'.

We actually make all kinds of guitars. Strats, teles, our own designs, semi-hollows...

Saw Earth, Wind & Fire last night, and Verdine White definitely still has it! He played his sig model—with a hole worn in the top from his thumb!—and a red P/J. Sadly, none of the pictures came out very well...

Rockin’ my NYC Satin Series Modern 4. This bass is getting a lot of action these days! My Purple Standard 4 is my #1 but these Modern basses have some serious punch!

You know, out of all the Sadowsky basses I've seen, I can't ever recall having seen a Sadowsky with a fretless maple fingerboard. Has anyone else seen one?
