Club Sadowsky!!!

Here's a couple of shots from Detroit Bass day, the first is Kern Brantley, Kern has toured with Lady Gaga, Beyonce, the Winans and Alliyah. He's trying out my Will Lee 5, he played Brandon Rose's Sadowsky at the concert for a few tunes. The other shot is me between a Eddie Kohen (left) and James Simonson on the right. James is stud player who is the MD for Betty Lavette (they played one of Lettermans last shows) and toured with Lion King. He's a Music Man endorser but he just picked up a used Metro and while he was checking out mine he told me he couldn't believe how well put together it was. The last shot is me with Reginald Canty (Al Jarreau-Diana Ross) and three young guns, Jason Leopold, Gabe Severn and Brandon Rose a Sadowsky endorser.

Nice!

You know, out of all the Sadowsky basses I've seen, I can't ever recall having seen a Sadowsky with a fretless maple fingerboard. Has anyone else seen one?

I’ve seen a fretless maple fretboard, but not on a Sadowsky. That would be a really cool build idea!

...not for me, I’m mediocre at best on a fretless, but for a better player that would be incredible...

Dude, how is that Super P pickup working out?

I. FREAKING. LOVE. THAT. PICKUP.

I apologize to y’all in the Sadowsky Club here, and particularly to @Sadowsky, Ellis and crew for not being quicker on getting that clip together. I won’t go into all the details but the time between getting that bass and now has been horribly hectic and full of a lot of changes (not all of them good). I went into the studio in late May and tracked it, but I’m really unhappy with the results and am going to just do it again at my buddy’s home studio this week (where I’ve gotten great results before).

Would love to hear the samples when you get them together. When that bass was in the shop, I really liked the sound of the reverse P with the super J.

Never had an issue with neck dive on my Sadowskys, and I've used a bunch of different straps with 'em. Maybe it's because I don't use those slippery nylon "seat belt" straps.

The straps I use include Sadowsky leather and Sadowsky cotton (I got the wide one). I recommend both!

I also own a Sadowsky NeoStrap that I bought many years ago. I still have it, it's really comfortable and doesn't slip, but I never gig it because I find the elasticity disconcerting (unstable). I think I read that the current NeoStrap is less stretchy.

I have a couple straps I made with 7 oz full grain premium leather, 3-1/2” wide. Rough grain on underside. Rubbed with neatsfoot oil and twisted by hand until soft as baby’s bottom. Add dunlop straplocks. Absolutely zero slippage and the leather looks great and will last lifetimes.

Rosewood, ziracote (not a finish upgrade at the car dealership) and sweet, rich, supple mahogany.

Gig-Level bass/treble boost (smidge), but VTC off. Blended/neck pup/bridge pup.

Wanktastic GarageBand iOs loops.

The darker tone woods with the lowmid forward pickup position of the design is really something. To me, it has ‘perfect studio bass tone’ built in. Compressed, round notes that speak clearly.

Not as subterranean as my PJ5 ...

Not as scooped as a J ...

Just solid, workable fingerstyle tone, closer to Pbass land because of the mahogany/rosewood.

More slap/pick tones to come.
