Not all battery doors / compartment covers are created equal, and we know that Sadowsky will use the best so I approve. I've never liked having to use a screwdriver to replace a battery on a bass. My Martin Keith has a pair of doors due to its 18V preamp: I have every confidence in them, and they are on the rear of the bass. Front placement would be even safer (for most players, anyway

I agree and being next to the knobs it looks like the front to me. I bet there's a piece of a pickguard or something that covers it and possibly they're showing it in the pic like this to let us know what's under the hood. Just like the Fender Marcus Miller model has the extra pickguard piece to cover the compartment with screws.

Well that's nice, fortunately Sadowsky offers other options, but it wouldn't be a Marcus Miller sig* without a front compartment -- not to mention other features that won't appeal to everyone, such as that extra large pickguard/control cover combo which allows for that highly practical front battery compartment.
*Yeah I know, the "Sadowsky 40th Anniversary Marcus Miller Signature" hasn't been confirmed, but I'd wager a sawbuck on it.

Very nice Sad! I like the 18mm bridge. Is it a 1.75" nut to finalize this perfection?
Thanks! Not sure about the weight, exactly. The unfinished body came in at 2.49 lbs, they estimated the final build at 7.5 lbs. Nice and light, just the way I like it!
Indeed, 1.75". I tried out the various widths at the shop, and this felt the most comfortable.
My previous 5-strings have included a Steinberger 4 to 5 string conversion, which in the long run was too narrow. Also, an early Parker Fly 5 - couldn't warm up to that.
Pre-CBS J-basses have been my instrument of choice to date (soon to change!) so this should be an easy transition.

Do it! I turned 60 this year, been playing bass for 47 years. The Sadowsky custom build is a self-reward for that.

How did you pull off an 18mm bridge? I don't see a Sadowsky that isn't 19mm for a 5-string.
Look closely at the bridge and compare to a different one. Pick any of the fivers on the Sadowsky site. Focus on the saddles. Look also at the distance between the outer strings and the edge of the fingerboard, especially up the neck. It's obvious. It's just the bridge that is different. There is no change to the neck. Actually, this is why it's easy to spot.
Hello folks, I've reached out via email to the Sadowsky camp on a couple of occasions and have not received a reply. Anyone experienced same? My issue is I installed a set of Sadowsky Bright Nickel Strings and the E string was completely dead. Has anybody else had any issues with these strings?
