Thanks Roger for taking the time, add you always do, to answer or questions. I'm sorry to hear that the project can't move forward but, in the end, the products you and your team deliver everyday speak for themselves about your commitment with quality and client service. The best thing you can give us to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the brand is to keep doing what always did.

I wonder if it was a Japanese project. From what I heard there has been a fire as well as a tsunami that has had some effect on things there.

IMHO, the fact that Roger has said very little about this, to me, seems like a clear indication there won't be any further information available, otherwise I think he would have said more already... it is what it is... or isn't... as the case may be. It's probably safe to say it was an unpleasant advent of some sort, so let's not prolong it here. Let's move on and let Roger focus on the good stuff.

That said, just sometimes speculation turns into rumors, and then rumors become a PIA for people (Roger in this case) to deal with. I guess that's what I'm hoping we can avoid. He's got MUCH better things to do.

Exactly, and besides, that whole rumor about Nippon Yakuza making incursions into the NYC area, in the hopes of unseating a veteran luthier who had been cutting in on their action back home ... only to be rebuked (with extreme prejudice) by a gathering of longshoreman/weekend bass players ... I mean ... that just sounded fishy. Not like 'sleep with the fishes' fishy either.
I installed some DR Hi-Beams (.040 - .120) on my Modern 5 not long ago and the winding length of the string is such that the non-tapered part of the B wraps part way around the tuner. This means that the B string would naturally line up closer to the E string if it wasn't for the nut keeping it in place. I've been assuming that this pressure on the nut won't be problematic but should I, in fact, be worried? Any thoughts welcome.
Anybody know if the Will Lee model is available w/o the WL preamp? Been trying to spec out one but the Sadowsky sales guy couldn’t give me a definitive answer because the shop manager was out of town.
FWIW, I've used a lot of DRs on my Sadowsky basses off and on over the years and never had a problem. The only thing I've done is maybe squeeze the string against the post a bit to straighten it out past the nut, but while that does reduce lateral pressure in the nut groove, I was doing it more for a straight string path than worrying about lateral pressure damaging the nut groove.
What Vic said. It's annoying to have to wrap the fat part of those low strings around the post. Aside from that: the only possible issue I see from lateral angle is that the string might be a bit more "sticky" as you tune it... emphasis on "might". I don't worry a bit, but if you do, maybe put some graphite in the nut slots?
Sorry for an error in this post. The MetroExpress pickguards will fit our SATIN SERIES basses only. They are not made to fit our NYC Custom Build basses.
