I switched from xl170 to NYXL's. I think they feel smoother and last longer, offsetting the additional cost. You need to buy a 4 string set and a single tapered B, I use a 130, not sure if 125 tapered is available.
I've become a huge fan of the Sadowsky Blue Label Steel strings, they've become my go to on the Sadowskys. 
I really like these as well, haven't decided yet in comparison to NYXLs, I've only had my Sadowsky for 2 months. The Sadowsky's are cheaper, we'll see how they last in comparison The NYXLs are smoother to touch
The NYXL's have a tapered B? I may look into that. I had a set and liked those. I do realize it's splitting hairs between the .125 and the .130 - everyone has their own preference. The .125 doesn't seem to be as common. I'll just have to try one out.
@MAJOR METAL - I love the Blue Label Nickels myself, I don't like the feel of steel. My gig/project plate is pretty full - strings don't last long at all! I can't afford the Blue Labels at the rate I go through them.

Have you tried Dunlop super bright Nickel?
I’ve been using them and really like the tone and feel, and at 17 bucks I can afford to replace them often enough in a heavy gig schedule.
I like the Dunlops as well though in the past I've had several sets where the B string was dull and lifeless (dead) right out of the box. The last few sets have been fine. Rich sounding strings and the price is great. I like them on my 4 and 5 string basses.
I just recently started with them and have not experienced that.
I have experienced dull strings and intonation problems in the past, haven't used them again
+1, and some other basses too. otherwise, my goto is DR... typically LoRiders and Beams. i have used the XL's, however, and i do like them... just not as much.I've become a huge fan of the Sadowsky Blue Label Steel strings, they've become my go to on the Sadowskys.

I was a Sadowsky Black Nickle player for a long time but oddly enough with my body chemistry, the Blue Steels last longer for me. That Blue Label line of Sadowsky strings truly is exceptional quality at a great price point!
After many tries, I've similarly decided that the blue label steels in regular gauge sound the best on the Sadowsky instruments. I tried the lighter gauge blue label steel 4 string and 5 string sets, but have ended up going back to the regular gauge. They seem perfect for these basses and perhaps that's why the shop has selected them for all new instruments!
Thanks for the string suggestions everyone but I was mainly asking if anyone had tried the D'addario xl 170 taperwound.125 B over the .130. - and if it might benefit me to go to a smaller gauge to reduce the boominess.

They have them available in the TB store as singles, both .125 and .130. But yeah, you have to get a 4 string set and add the 5th, so not as cost effective...

I had posted a while back about a scratchy/noisy tone control on my P5. I bought some Lectricare from the Sadowsky store. I just sprayed the pot and rotated it about a dozen times and now it's as quiet as a church mouse!

How far from center, neck pickup do you drill the holes for Will Lee's neck pickup? I know his covers are pulled back some because of the 22-fret neck.
