Club Sadowsky!!!

Has anyone seen an official price list for the new German-built Sadowsky Metro instruments? I've searched and could not locate one. Roger mentions the line starting at $2400 in some NAMM videos. But there are several listed on Reverb for well above that. And Reverb listings suggest they are being sold by authorized Sadowsky dealers. I'm looking at one of these but the price transparency is mirky at the moment. Are the dealers marking up the pricing on NAMM samples, perhaps? Thinking I should wait until the "normal" product distribution chains get some normal pricing established.

This is straight from the source. I don't think there will be a final list showing all options until actual production begins in the coming months.

5-String Soaps are humcancelling. All of our soaps are humcancelling.

I’ve never owned or played one of the basses with soaps in the 60s J positions, but I’ve heard them in demonstration videos as I’ve wondered about them, too. I’d still love to try one, but my takeaway from what I have heard is that I still prefer J pickups when talking about being placed in typical J positions - and single coils at that when talking specific to Sadowsky pickups. The only humcancelling pickups I’ve REALLY liked were the Aguilar 5J-HC pickups, not because they sounded like singles, I just liked their sound. With that, I haven’t tried the newest stacked HCs from Sadowsky either. To me, I like the bite that the singles give me in my WL-5 and the soaps from what I’ve been able to hear, at least in typical J positioning, lack that (though they certainly have plenty of bite in the modern configuration).

I'm guessing some of these dealers that bought the Namm basses are trying to sell them for ridiculous pricing, I think you have the good idea about waiting for normal production to kick in and the pricing is secure.

That sounds right based on trying various soaps in one of my basses with 60's Jazz positioning. (various Nords, Barts, Aggies, Carvin, Sadowsky) I have concluded that bigger is not always "better" but usually they tend to be more "modern" sounding. Still does not replace the meaty snap of a single coil though if thats what you are after.

This is the one I'm zero'd in on! I spoke with Roger today about these pickups and the German Metro NAMM samples I asked about in an earlier question today. Of course, Roger is so easy to talk to and explains things so well. After our chat, I'm focusing in on the NYC Will Lee you have linked to. I'm enamored with ash/rosewood at the moment.

My tone goals are pretty simple. Looking for fat, clear, punchy, shimmery overtones, lots of bottom, burpy, mid-presence, barky, sparkly top, aggressive, lots of fundamental, articulate, huge, vintage, thump, yet smooth and delicate. Maybe a little scooped, too.
