Club Sadowsky!!!

Question for the group:

Do any of you regularly gig a Stingray 5, in addition to your Sadowsky basses, and do you have any issues going to that 17.5MM spacing, on the same gig.

My left hand is so much more comfortable with 19MM now, and I really just need to order the 'Musicman Sadowsky' I have Roger quoting, but thought I'd ask.

The Stingray is the other 'sound in my head', just like the PBass.

I found it to be an issue when I still had my SR5. The tight stirng spacing, weight and the G string slipping off the finger board were all issues for me.

Gigging the @#$% out of my Sadowsky basses in the last decade has changed me as a player. Spoiled me really.

The 19MM thing is a must. My MTD 634, with 18MM ... I just fumbled all over the place with that thing played live. In the bedroom I was Johnny Pat-a-tucci.

I run almost every single 'this bass is the best at ___' comment with that grain of salt. Yeah ... but have you gigged it live.

So many basses sound great/feel great in the practice room.

ah, the dreaded kamikaze G string. It's been a while since I heard about that, but I definitely remember having a Stingray with that "feature".

Pre-Talkbass, my 94' Stingray 5 was my main player, and I thought that I was oobatz with my left-hand, G-string slipping off the edge and what-not.

I'm with you on the spacing thing, and it trips me up to go back to narrower spacing. Oddly, it seems like more of an issue with 5 strings (or 6) than with 4 strings, maybe because I just automatically expect 4s to have skinny necks

Last few times I touched a 4-string it seemed odd ... and that realization that a 4-string was now 'odd' ... it felt odd as well.

My number 1 turns 8 years old today!
I bought this for my 50th birthday (do the math) and has been my go to bass ever since. Although my Modern Satin is getting some good attention these days and I got a 3rd NYC on order, my number 1 will always be my number 1.

My number 1 (in my avatar) is 15-1/4 years old, and one of your videos helped influence me to buy that Sadowsky.... but I believe you were playing a cherryburst/amberburst J-bass, which I assume was your former #1 before you got your current #1!
