I've noticed those who have posted photos of their racks have the instrument stored with the long horn side facing in, which is the opposite of how I have always stored mine. Have I been doing it wrong all this time...?

I think it depends on shape of body, but it is more stable if long horn is inner side - at my cheap rack.

For K&M stand, they work for both direction.

I also use the K&M stands. Got 3 of them and I'm very happy with those. But regarding the looks I also love my trusty Gator stand.

I like it very much! But I don't play 4strings so often. Got it modded with EMG pickups and electronics and a plexi ramp, the original fender noiseless and preamp weren't my cup of tea

Excellent. The original pre amp is pretty mild by design. They are beautifully constructed though.
