The Trace Elliot Elf is an amazing backup. Powerful beyond its wattage rating and sounds great too. I've heard good things about the new Warwick Gnome which is similar in size. I had to use the Elf once so far on a gig and shattered my expectations, I had to turn it way down.

I think my Satin was built a bit later, serial # 8907. I ordered mine on Dec 30, 2019 (last day to order a Satin) and finally took delivery (a little Covid delayed) in November 2020. It was worth the wait. They brought back Vintage Shoreline Gold for me, Tort guard and I love the White pearloid blocks on the Morado board. Rounded out with a chambered Alder body with single coil pickups. And 7.69 pounds. And that's why i love Sadowskys.Thanks guys!! I did some sleuthing and I think this is one of the last Satin basses that got made. It's serial #8830 and it looks like this last batch hasn't hit the Recently Sold page yet so idk how many may have come after it.

I placed the order in December 2019 and took delivery in August 2020. I'm impressed they were able to turn it around even that quickly with COVID and all the restrictions that got placed in NY. But let me just say, thank the flying spaghetti monster that I ordered when I did, because this bass is incredible! I'm not telling you all anything you don't know, but it's the first bass I've ever owned that I can't find one single thing from a tone/feel/playability aspect that could be better. The neck is PERFECT - no dead spots (even using pedals that wreak havoc on tracking) and intonation is dead on. I've had only a few gigs since I got it, but it just fits in the mix whether I'm playing Funk, R&B/Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Classic Rock, or... Top 40.
I have a F***er Jazz that is really pretty fantastic and has been my workhorse for years, but it hasn't left it's case since... well, since August. Maybe it's time for this to hit the Classifieds.

Thank you, @Sadowsky for building such outstanding instruments and your commitment to your customers (cult members?). My only regret is that I didn't also grab a Satin Modern or Verdine White while the gettin' was good.
Really beautiful..love the block inlays on that bass. You rarely see that neck without the neck binding.

I am going to list my NYC Verdine White Satin P/J 5 in the classifieds. I absolutely love this instrument, but can't get comfortable with this width and spacing. I conferred with Roger regarding some mods, but this looks like the best path for now. If one of you guys has a spare P/J 5 with the 1 3/4 inch dark neck, or a P/J 4 ideally with a drop tuner and dark fretboard, I'd be interested in discussing a trade. NYC chambered only please. Please PM me to keep this clean. Now back to your awesome Sadowsky programming. Can't wait to show my new to me NBD once I get this sorted.

I’ve seen numbers sold on the site before my bass was in my hands with a higher serial number.

The serial numbers aren't necessarily assigned as the basses are sent out. It has to do with when the order was processed and when the neck and body were ready.

I have an alder/rosewood NYC PS5 which nails the P-bass sound for me and was thinking of acquiring an ash/maple bass for a different voice. I'm not sure to go with a jazz or modern but tending toward the modern with it's thicker, focused tone. Thoughts on this?
I'm a finger style player and for me Keng-Bassist absolutely killed it. Awesome tone...

I've had a few ash/maple MV5's and M5-24's, and it's a bit of a toss-up for me, as follows:
1) M5-24: Being a P-bass guy myself, the fingerstyle tone of the M5-24 has a similar low-mid rich thickness that I almost like better than my PJ5. It's a bit leaner/more focused and just kills it in the mix. Dial in that neck pickup and it's even more in 'P-Land'.
But then I slap on the blended pickup tone ...
It has a slap-tone more in the Ken Smith camp, and to me, in a live situation, when I lay in the thumb, it loses a low-end presence that is absolutely there fingerstyle. IMO/IME.
2) MV5: If you like the slightly-more-scooped J-Tone, which in a mix is not that different than the PJ5 Sadowsky that is my #1 but different enough that I prefer my PJ5, I guarantee you you'll be happy with the model that I'm betting the overwhelming majority of Sadowsky players own/use and that Roger is known for. My PJ5 just, as mentioned, has a low-mid kick that really just does it for me.
Then there's the slap tone ...
As much as a PJ5 guy I am, and as much as I 'get by' with the blended PJ slap tone and as much as I dig the P-only slap tone ... there is just nothing like a J5 blended pickup slap tone.
Just thick and juicy and snappy and sparkly and dare I say ... overused word alert ... 'punchy'.
In a dream world I'd have Prince's guy who used to catch his guitar for him. I'd throw off my PJ5, he'd catch it, another guy would throw me an ash/maple MV5 just for slap passages, and we'd get so good at it that the music of the evening would be secondary to the acrobatics.

This video drove me and helped to decide which Sadowsky I'd choose... can't afford more so I've bought a Modern5-24... it is what I mean killer sound truly...
But... I'm thinkin about swapping my Blade for a MV5...
(Every band really loves my Blade's sound, playing for 21 years... so it'll be a hard decision...
)And I experienced, do not attach much importance for several players several instruments' sound... the real sound comes by your fingers, no matter how many zeros written at the price...
