Probably because it is closer to the camera. It is a rather regular Jazz Bass shape (apart from the headstock which might take some getting used to for some).

I like the thinking that Im looking down at the knob. 12:00 is at the bottom, looking down. CCW points it to the neck. CW to the bridge.

Yes it is. I am a total sucker for Purple Heart necks so when deciding on the wood types I did not have to think very long. Fretboard is lacquered Bubinga, to better separate the purple heart and bubinga we added a maple veneer stripe in between the neck and fretboard. I really love how that turned out. Body is Red Cedar.
Wouldn't it be great if you could have these kinds of custom neck laminations on Sadowsky basses? It does alter the sound by quite a bit though... I wanted my custom Jazz to have some Rickenbacker alure, and I think it does because of that lacquered Bubinga fb. Am I right? Who can tell...

Makes the bass look better then my Samsung S9 can.

I’ve had my Sadowsky Satin 5-21 almost a year now. It’s the only Sadowsky I’ve ever owned, and I’m still very, very pleased with the bass! It gets a lot of use, and it’s my go-to choice for many of my gigs.
I’m having one little nagging issue to which someone may have a solution... Every time my thumb touches a pickup pole piece while I’m playing, it buzzes. On two P basses I own, I had a local tech ground the pole pieces underneath to eliminate buzzing, and it worked perfectly. He ran a ground wire across the pole pieces under the pickup, with a small exposed portion of the wire touching each pole.
With the stacked coil Jazz pickups in my Sadowsky, I’m not sure if that would be possible, or if it would even be a good idea. I only know that it’s worked well on my P basses.

I've heard some people use a little bit of clear hard acrylic nail polish as an insulator, which supposedly works well and doesn't affect looks at all.

If you want to try a temporary fix, put a little piece of black electrical tape over the pole.
Vincent is news to me, but always a pleasure to see an angled pickup oriented in the right direction...which is also why I dig Reverse-P! Nice looking bass!
i did that on my geddy j bass that has dimarzios in it... it works too of course... ironically, ended up being a "permanent" fix on that because those pole pieces are adjustable hex screws, so i can't really paint them with anything.
I have a few pre-cbs Fenders that appear to have clear lacquer (origina?) over the pole pieces. Seems to do the job, although it's been wearing off.

Should I just be happy and content with my German Sadowsky or do the eventual, scratch that itch and get a NYC?

Well I didn't have the chance to try one of the German ones, but I heard some enthusiastic feedbacks from some fellas, tried several time the Japanese and they were great axes, I'm very curios about this new line, Hope to get soon the chance!
I'm just as happy with my German Sadowsky as I am with my NYC. I had the NYC first. Build quality, other than the electronics, feels just as good.
I have nothing but good things to say about my WL-4.de. I'm going to add a bell cover and have been experimenting with one using double sided tape. Well, the only negative is th bag (the PortaBag Express). It's a little on the cheap side, IMHO. I ordered an Access Stage Five yesterday to replace it since finding a real PortaBag is nearly impossible.
A very similar question to one I ask myself. I have an NYC and a Japanese, and have been debating a German, or wondering if I should just save. I got to play a little with a German this weekend and I was extremely impressed with it. Theoretically have a deposit on one, but have to decide and sort of depends on the (potential) sale of a bass I consigned.
