Oh man, both are killer. Haven’t had a lot of time with the 2020 LTD yet but I can safely say I like the punch of the B string better on the 2021 LTD.

Oh man, both are killer. Haven’t had a lot of time with the 2020 LTD yet but I can safely say I like the punch of the B string better on the 2021 LTD.
The neck on that whaleburst is INSANE! As you have time with these instruments, I'll be curious to learn what you prefer as between them, and your thoughts on the extent to which differences may flow from the difference between Metroline Ltd and Masterbuilt quality. Enjoy!

It's a technique called flamenco slap and it's not hard to learn it. It's very useful because let you reach fast tempo minimizing the effort. It's more easy than seems. The very challenging thing is the tempo change with no bar count, a great practice for time keeping skill
OK, I definitely prefer the neck profile and feel of the 2020 JJ Masterbuilt LTD over the 2021 Modern Metroline LTD with the 2020 JJ LTD being flatter and faster feeling. It's not that the 2021 Metroline is bad by any means. It does feel thicker but also does taper to a flatter feel as you move up the neck. The ebony board is also gorgeous. Splitting hairs here really.
As for which sounds better? Tough call. I like both.
The modern is more airy in the high end with some of what some people might call the Ken Smith type honk. But it sure is punchy and big yet capable of sweet and round too. Very, very nice. The JJ is more vintage sounding and not as bright up top and probably better for creating that "pillow" sound. But can for sure get more aggressive and raw too. That open Jazz pickup type feel but not as aggressive as the single coils. It too is very, very nice.
They both feel premium. The raw feel of the Metroline is pretty cool. Sort of reminds me of a Warwick in a way. The Masterbuilt with gloss finish is what you would expect if you have experience with gloss finished Sadowsky's.
I'm keeping both and selling something else.

I am trying so hard not to buy that 2020 at my local shop I was so impressed with.

How do your Metroline LTDs compare to the NYC Satins you had?

I’ve gone from covering Marcus Miller parts on David Sanborn numbers to covering Joe Osborne’s parts on Carpenters tunes in an authentic and convincing manner on the same gig thanks to the VTC. I know that sounds like a weird setlist, but you never know what sort of material you may have to cover during weddings!
True that! I veered into the Lakland camp for several years, and as far as 3-band preamps go, I find the John East and Xotic circuits - which also use a passive tone control - to be quite good. But the Sadowsky is a whole 'nother thing - and it's that preamp circuit that pulled me back into the fold.
yeah, i'm pretty sure the biggest reason for this is the Sadowsky pre is also like no other, so the interaction is going to be unique to that combo.
Agreed on the VTC - most used and useful feature for me. I rarely if ever adjust or use the preamp as my amp is adjusted to my liking, but the VTC gets me everywhere I need to be.
This. About the only thing I do with the preamp is bump the bass a touch when favoring/soloing the bridge. That's pretty much it. I was considering getting the mid module added to my new build, but then I thought... why... I'll never use it.
