Club Sadowsky!!!

Played the new RSD pj4 at rehearsal last night. It is more aggressive than my older Japan pj5 for sure. Definitely Sadowsky pedigree in the tone. Neck finish is great from feel perspective. No fret sprout, even notes along board. No hum and a pretty clean control cavity. As mentioned this one has Nordstrand pickup upgrade and vtc added. Finish is ok, kind of a plastic like feel to it. It is basically a $700-$900 bass as designed, and like every bass in that range I've ever bought I changed out certain components to my liking. Only thing that bothers me right now is the bridge saddles are basically bottomed out on the E and G, however it is at my perfect action level or maybe a tad lower already so don't feel I'd ever need more travel down at all - definitely won't mess with shims etc. Big plus it is 8lbs and lightest in my whole stable, and I don't have to worry about bar stages with it.

Me too. I found myself just staring at it last night. The flame is mesmerizing. But the grain is really pretty too. Here's a couple more photos of the entire bass.

The wisdom here from the truly steeped professionals (I think it was ElMon) is that turning the blend knob clockwise adds mids, by favoring the bridge pickup. Once I thought of it that way, the control makes intuitive sense.

Interesting. I figured this had likely been discussed to death. But 2838 pages in, it's easier to just ask... lol

I sheepishly admit that I have done this for over 25 years. I played a Spector before my Sadowsky experience and Spectors have the usual balance control.

When I was much younger, I was hesitant to ask Roger to switch the wiring. He means it to be that way and I thought he wouldn't approve. Later on I figured out he's a mensch and isn't "that guy". I had a relative that was a phone technician switch it around. That was literally over a thousand gigs ago.

It's almost inconsequential concern for me because the only pickup balance settings I use are both pickups full on and neck 75% and bridge 25%.

Outside of that , Sadowsky designs are a triumph of efficiency, usability, horse sense, and musical purpose. I'd never change anything else. No need to put moustaches on Mona Lisas.

Yeah, in the tone control instruction sheet, it shows which wires to switch if you want a standard pan control. Obviously it's not that big of a deal. I'm gonna leave it for a while and see if I get used to it.

It's kind of like my custom Moon bass. The knobs are Vol/Vol/Bass/Treble. I was going to swap the bass & treble but the wiring was just intimidating enough that I decided to forget it & just adapt. Even though it's an easy switch on the Sadowsky, it'll be interesting to see if I can get used to it.
