Yes, as I'm 65 and not getting younger, weight should be on my radar - and it is...but Vic's "control/compression" bit perfectly describes much of what I'm digging from the Metro WL5. For the record, what I'm hoping to get from an NYC build is that last degree of goodness that would come from an ebony fingerboard and an NYC neck carve (my Metro neck feels chunkier than NYCs I've known...but yikes, what if that is why it sounds so good??) and have been thinking of an ash body. As for single-coil/SuperP-J, it's funny. For many years, my most used basses were dual soaps (5-24 Modern/Xotic XB2/Carl Pedigo 34" 5 string in my avatar, w/ East preamp and Duncan NYC soaps), but the WL 5 single-coils are charming the bejeezus out of me. Maybe its because my high-end hearing continues to deteriorate with age and too many arena/stadium gigs in my first life as a trombonist unable to use ear protection, but while I've traditionally not dug single coils, I'm now finally comprehending how well they can work in a mix. I'm concerned that the Supers might not emulate that chimey, crackling, single-coil attack and shimmering transparency. Of course, I might also be over-thinking this situation. But hey, isn't that inherent in the Talkbass experience?
