Club Sadowsky!!!

I went and checked out a buddy’s classic rock band last weekend. He was playing an older Sadowsky j5. It didn’t have the VTC, but man that bass was so thick and fat! That bass was sitting in the mix and never let up. So yeah, after that I bought another Sadowsky. I went with a Japan metro J5. In the past I’ve owned NYC’s and metros. Just like every bass player “I bought & sold.” But after actually hearing one as an audience member, this one one might just stay awhile.

I spoke with Roger on the phone late last week. After sounding things out and getting his insight on the voice that a PJ5 offers, I realized I didn't want to gamble on a configuration I am uncertain about. So, I changed my order. I KNOW I love Ash/Maple and JJ configuration. This just in!! NBD! Roasted Ash with Master grade flamed maple!

I left all the protection plastic on until I can give it a test drive. Ironically enough, this is the first weekend in months I don't have any gigs.

(Since my wife also works at home and is on the phone a lot, I haven't had a chance to plug in.) It's Killin' me!

This bass is truly a testament to the world class bass-building mastery that comes out of Roger's shop. The irony is for a fraction of what this costs, my Japanese ME5 is right there in tone and playability! But this NYC bass is truly a 'special one'.

I know - almost impossible to say, but does anyone know when the new Logo on the MetroExpress Basses will be Standard, I really need a Sado Bass, but I can´t live with the RSD Headstock Logo. I really can´t.

Beautiful! Yes, I especially like the hidden fret ends. So smooth. The adjustable nut is nice too.

Looks like yours has the rubber pickup covers too which I really like. Time will tell how they wear.

If the master grade flame maple neck on my build looks anything like that I’ll be in hog heaven. Quartersawn, too … simply beautiful!

... but that's just it. pretty much all the NYC shop basses are "special ones" which is what the majority of the price diff is about... the only real question is, if the player's sensitivity (and budget) justify the uplift. at least in my case, definitely yes, tho i do also have a metroline and metroexpress (both japanese) that i love and also play often.

Maybe a bit nit-picky, but has anyone else had an issue with the pickup screws coming loose all the time?

My German Metroline has threaded inserts for the pickup adjustment screws and I was really impressed when I first noticed them, but now I’m having to readjust my pickup height every couple of gigs. There’s just not enough tension on the screws to hold them very tight.

Nothing some nail polish or blue Loctite can’t fix, but I feel like it’s one of those fancy accoutrements that isn’t really necessary and maybe works against itself a little bit.

I've been thru the same issue with a few Warwick ( also using the inserts ), I found a way to mitigate the problem by using a few turns of teflon tape ( same one used in plumbing ). You should try by yourself, easy and cheap.

It’s good to know a preventative with Teflon tape will work. It’s not uncommon with screws in general. Cheap and easy. That’s why I subscribe to this thread.

Screw to wood connections require attention. Especially on newish wood. Roger recommends hand tightening neck pocket bolts and strap lock screws at every intonation and string change.
