Surely loving my Japanese Metro WL5, which is kicking other basses to the curb...
That’s for sure, they are undervalued, in my opinion. I’ve seen the factory-made MIJ MetroExpresses listed (I know, I don’t know the sales price) for more than Yoshi & Co. artisan-builts. I know the Japanese MEs were well regarded, but it doesn’t make sense to me.
My MIJ Metro RV4 is ridiculously well made. I honestly don’t know how it could be better. Lighter, yes (mine is 8.9 lbs, which is fine by me), but not better constructed.

I also emailed a week ago but you were traveling to another event and it took a while to get a response. Just bad timing on my part. Thank you for your email replies today. I took your suggestion and placed my order today for #8524. I have a strong suspicion I'm going to love this bass. But a PJ5 is still an unknown to me so this gives me the best chance to evaluate on a bass want to love and keep! No new version. Just a new headstock. Still made in China. Roger has got his trademark back. So now the China made Metro Express will have Sadowsky on the headstock in stead of RSD.
Or marked as duds due to early teething issues.So the RSD's will be collectors items!
There are a number of Kikuchi Metroline Basses for sale up to and over the $3K mark. That competes directly with the new Warwick MetroLine Bass line which includes several improvements including invisible frets and chambering. That could be a reason some aren’t selling. A $2K or so they’re a great deal.
In any case the MetroLines and MasterBuilts from Warwick are killing it. I just saw a MasterBuilt Will Lee 4-string in Olympic White on their site for €6000. Twice what my MetroLine Will Lee cost me. Without a fancy top I have to wonder what justifies the price premium. In any case that’s in line with NYC pricing.

My Will Lee 5 Is certainly a keeper, I've owned 2 NYCS and 3 other Metro's. If I won the lottery, I might order a couple of others. But this would still be #1, it is workhorse and the sound guys love it. And at 8.4 pounds my shoulder likes it too.
So the RSD's will be collectors items!

I spoke with Roger on the phone late last week. After sounding things out and getting his insight on the voice that a PJ5 offers, I realized I didn't want to gamble on a configuration I am uncertain about. So, I changed my order. I KNOW I love Ash/Maple and JJ configuration. This just in!! NBD! Roasted Ash with Master grade flamed maple! I left all the protection plastic on until I can give it a test drive. Ironically enough, this is the first weekend in months I don't have any gigs.
(Since my wife also works at home and is on the phone a lot, I haven't had a chance to plug in.) It's Killin' me!

Love the look and that neck is outrageous. You need to come up with an excuse to get your wife out of the house so you can rock that bass for a while.
