I also have a Lakland 5 string and they are different enough but similar enough to make it a fairly easy transition.

As I recall, the Lakland 5's are a 35" scale and Roger's basses are 34". I found it difficult to play my Lakland and and let it go. I just couldn't handle to transition although I do fine with the slight bit of extra scale length of my FBasses.

It is true that the scale length is different but it really doesnt bother me very much. I measured the effective string length (distance from the witness points at the saddle and the nut) and the difference was only 0.5 inches between the two basses. Not much to worry about in my opinion. I like them both a lot and feel lucky to have both. Lots of tonal options between a Jay Ray and a Pea Jay.

Hi guys,

I recently bought a German Metroline VJ24-5, it’s a beautiful bass, and I really like the sound and feel of it. The bass has a chambered body and weighs 3.75kg which is very light. The only problem is that it has a small amount of neck dive. Original Sadowsky tuning machines are 80g per machine, which makes up about 400g total. What do you think, will switching to Hipshot USA Ultralites solve the diving neck problem? And which model should I buy that is compatible with the original tuners?

I have already tried a wider strap, it helps but does not solve the problem totally.

Two of these original Sadowsky tuners are also feeling too stiff.

I even wrote an email to Warwick but the answer was literary “This is the first time I hear that Sadowsky bass has a neck dive” and that was all.

On 1 of my basses (4-string) I changed the tuners for Schaller M4 90L C tuners. Weight is 52 gr a piece, so very light, good quality and good price.

I noticed our new musical director checking out my gear after our early sound check run-through this past Sunday morning. I walked over to him and he asked, what kind of bass do you have, sounds great? Sadowsky, I explained. Playing my Japan metro MV-5 string jazz with SCs.

In my experience the lighter tuner machines may not correct the issue. I've owned several NYC 5's that suffered from neck dive. The bass bodies were just too light and there was no way to really correct the long lever effect of the neck. This is why I spec'd my upcoming NYC to be around 8.5-9lbs as this seems to be the sweet spot for me in terms of balance and tone.
