Club Sadowsky!!!

I didn't know there was a numbered list...
yeah, if you look at all the threads in at least the bass forum (maybe all forums), any time there's a thread that's a "club" thread, it used to be whomever started the thread (and any continuations of it) would manage a numbered list of "members" upon request... maybe in some cases with some requirements for membership.

i'm not sure if it's done as much these days, but at one point in time it was a pretty popular thing on TB... some people would even list all their club membership numbers in their signature. :)

I’m back in the club with this NYC Satin…I’d been on the hunt for a nice Satin after selling a Satin Deluxe last year while building our new house.

Plays wonderfully! This one has a switch on it that the seller told me “switches between humcancelling and single coil mode” but that doesn’t sound right to me. Any ideas on that?

that mod is offered by the shop. It’s a thing.

When I started this club like a LOOOOONNNNNGGGGG time ago I gave out numbers. And Fran took over that.
But we were a lot smaller in the number of owners too, so it was easier to manage.
These days there are a lot of us and it’s not kept as current or up to date.
I believe Gran May still keep a current list. Though not sure how many people are still active.

Either way, I think this is the longest and most active club thread on TB.

Interesting - I hadn’t heard of it before. How does that work from a coil perspective? I believe the Satin Js all had stacked humcancelling pickups, does the switch essentially bypass one of the stacked coils on each pickup?

That's exactly what it does. Nordstrand did the same thing with their Fat Stacks pickups and F Bass does as well.

Makes sense. I knew about pickups specifically designed for that like the Fat Stacks, but had never heard of it as a mod to existing humcancelling jazz pickups.

I have one in my J/MM that switches between series, parallel and single coil but I end up leaving the J in single coil almost always.

I’ll likely keep mine in single coil mode also. Through my amp I couldn’t detect any hum at all, even with extreme pickup panning. Might flip it in the studio though.

Well done, Marty. Just had a look and I see that the seller had changed it to metro express. I will be interested to hear what you think. The common "upgrade" on those seems to be to retrofit the standard sadowsky tone set up so that you get the vintage tone control, which imo is invaluable, but no doubt you have already done your homework. No doubt with your experience and skills you have already devised a way to do it yourself without purchasing a whole new loom. It is I think just a traditional fender capacitor to roll off the highs.
Hi Tim, you all good?
I'm picking it up tomorrow. I already have a set of Hipshot Ultralites and Detuner on my bench. I'm fully capable of doing fret ends and rolling the fingerboard edges if needed. The VTC is quite simple, I've already got components in my stash that will do it, but I'll play it first and see if I need it. Take care.

Hi Marty, yes all good here thanks. I was fortunate enough to come through the cyclone unscathed. Hope you enjoy the Sadowsky, mine is a joy to play although Dusty tends to prefer the sound of my Fenders on gigs. As I said to him, they just sit differently in the mix -a Sadowsky is not a Fender and a Fender is not a Sadowsky but they both do the job well, the only limitation being my ears and fingers.

Greetings, I'm thinking of going with black hardware on my black RSD fl pj. Does anybody know which bridge will have the same bolt pattern, or will I have re-drill?
Additionally, I want to change to a black control plate do I need 8mm or 3/8" holes?
Thanks!

I’ve played that bass and also had two satins. Those are stack coils. The switch gives you single coil mode which I prefer.

I don’t know of any direct replacement bridges. The closest, that I’m aware of, are the Hipshot Type-A and the Gotoh J510SJ-5, the latter was used by the shop before the use of the proprietary bridge used now. Unsure on the control plate.

Edit: The Gotoh is only available in 18mm spacing.
