Ok guys highly considering selling my masterbuilt to order a NYC. Thoughts comments smart remarks appreciated. Someone tell me the NYC is worth the headache

I haven't been on Talkbass in the looooooongest time. I believe (and could be wrong) a difference also is financial: NYC Custom vs German Masterbuilt the import duties/tariffs for each country may offset the cost of import. Ie, European player orderering NYC vs European sourced masterbuilt German.

Roger's NYC shop currently has a 1 year production turnaround time. I don't know what it is for custom ordered Sadowsky Warwick masterbuilt.

Sorry…no new Sadowsky basses in the stable, but just finished building my custom 4-bass walnut rack stand—re-purposing Nitro-guard’s in my neck holder slots…guess I need another NYC!

When I first read your post I just saw "nice rack". I busted up with tears in my eyes. And I read it again I busted up even more for my mistake.

If that isn't bad enough, I sure thought that there were two racks with matching Sadowskys. Why would anyone have 3 pairs of the same bass. D'OH!

This is just not my day...brain is rebooting.

Yup, it was designed to get the result that Sterling and his fanbois wanted.

I actually put money down on the 19mm Ray 5 ("any color as long as it's black" was OK with me), but despite that carefully calculated flop I won out in the end: love the custom Sadowsky MM5 I got back in 2010.

There was a time I had a GAS for a 5-string MM-style bass with 19mm spacing, and since I couldn't find anything that could address my wish, I got one Brazilian "Giannini MM5" model which had the classic Stingray oval PG, but a defective neck ( truss rod ), and since I didn't like the pau-ferro look, neither the chrome bridge and hardware, so I grabbed a 5-string neck 100% Canadian Hard Maple, and happened to find a nice piece of formica with similar visual to that maple neck. Put some black hardware matching the 19mm I wanted...

And... Voilà!

Just curious why you are not considering a Sadowsky NYC model?

I live in Spain, so due to import taxes and international shipping costs buying a German Sadowsky would be more affordable than a NYC one.

Can anyone please let me know the difference between the German Custom shop and Masterbuilt Sadowsky basses? Also how different they are price-wise?

Got a Sweetwater email today that they are now distributing Metro Expresses.

Just received my NYC Custom and it is fantabulous. Played a short set the other night and have a full, 2hr gig next week. Can't wait to put it through its paces. My sound engineer, who is also a Ric bass player was asking whether it was worth it. After the set, his first comment was "well, I'm sold".

Thanks! I admit to staring at it next to my desk frequently. Feels great, looks great, sounds great. Very fortunate indeed. Shop did a great job, and Lukasz and Roger were great sending photos and updates.

Well, I've got a NBD to celebrate though it's almost two weeks late as I've been too busy playing it to post about it until now:

Here's the rundown:

- P body
- 1 3/4" nut
- Super P and Super J pickups
- Reverse headstock
- Nitro '59 bust (with zero red in it)
- Custom-made anodized aluminum gold pickguard
- Nickel hardware
- Satin nickel knobs
- An absolutely killer relic job on everything from Lukasz!

To say I'm blown away by how great this build turned out is an understatement, and I'm truly grateful for how patient and accommodating Roger, Lukasz and everyone at the shop have been when I had questions throughout the build process!!

I'm still getting to know it and am learning about it's rather unique voice and feel, but this bass is a freaking monster and I'm super excited to get it onstage sometime soon!!
