My MetroLine Will Lee RW4 is the most versatile bass I own. Small nits prevent its quality from equaling my US Spector NS-2.

I just filled out an order form for an NYC build. Looking forward to the process.

Just received a 2023 metro express JJ 5. The neck feels much thicker to a metroline SC.

but the pots on the 2023 express feels much better, the 2022 metroline SC pots are just loose…

the tuner on the express turns smoothly and is on par with the USA ultralites on the SC.

yet to plug it in.

I like the wood, the construction quality. But I don't like the stocked electronics.
Output level is obviously lower than my other basses(include passive bass).
And I turned both trimpot fully clockwise. When I push tone knob to active mode, the volume is slightly lower than pull the knob(passive mode).
How to fix these issue? Thanks.

That's a nice one! Love the wood grain. Doesn't sound right to me. Bad battery? Check connections on pcbs. Probably need a tech diagnosis.

Volume is about the same in passive and active mode (with zero bass treble boost) for my ML SC5.

adjusted trimpot for slight bump in mids, and match the level with the mid toggle off.

agree that the overall output (no bass treble boost) is lower compared to my other basses (NG3 L2500 SMXJJ5).

I have to say that I'm super impressed by this bass and what it offers for the money I paid.
I want to thank Dr. Cheese for his review and videos on the Metroexpress fretless because that was what made me buy this bass.
It's not a perfect bass but it's confortable, light, well built and it really sings. It offers a lot for the price.
Even the accessories are great. The gigbag is awesome, better than some that come with other expensive basses. And the straplocks are a great feature.
The best thing I can say about it is that yesterday night I went to bed around 3 am because I couldn't put this bass down. Love the feel, the way it plays and the tone.
I was thinking about changing to flatwounds but I'm really liking how it sounds with rounds. Maybe I'll try a set of pressure wounds...
This is a great bass for the money and although this Metroexpress line with the RSD logo has been highly criticized, I have to say that this is a solid instrument and a great deal for the money.

After reading many of the comments in the threads about the MetroExpress basses, I'm well aware of that...

Maybe there will be some recognition that these are actually good basses a few years from now.

Thing is, you can't expect to get a NYC quality instrument at this price range. You have to adjust your expectations and understand that some features will not be top notch but overall these are solid basses that perform way above their price tag.

I’ve owned several Japan Metro’s and Japan MetroExpress basses. I also own 2 Chinese MetroExpress basses ( first run) After personally working out the niggles, and quirks, (adding a VTC only, not an entirely new preamp, and copper shielding), I have found my Verdine MetroExpress to be an absolutely fantastic bass. I’ve done 100’s ( literally) of gigs with it. Have A/B’d it against many basses costing far more. It has a higher output, sounds as good or better, and has the the ergos I’m most accustomed to. Weighs a light 8lbs 4oz, and plays absolutely wonderfully. And now, For the first time in several years, I finally have a bass that sounds even better, but is 9lbs 3oz, and a 5 string ( which I swore off until my current gig required it) and its also a Sadowsky.

But IMHO, the first run chinese line wasn’t terrible, it just needed a little massaging, to bring it up to snuff.

Weird fat neck that somehow is fast and incredibly easy to play. Sound is perfect for what I'm playing these days and is amazing all round. Great purchase and Sweetwater did an excellent job for me w many asks....

Anyone know what strings it comes with? Like em

Is a bit heavy though at 9 10oz, could have waited for lighter one but you know how it is

Both 1.75 nut. They’re plenty different…attack and tone. I’m trying some Dunlop SS flats on the 5-21. (WL—either Black Nickel’s or LaBella RX-N5A’s) Anyway, s-u-p-e-r pleased with both these basses …

yes. The neck is THICK and mine is heavy too.
