Club Sadowsky!!!

Upgraded my interface. SSL2 from Solid Stage Logic. Very pleased with the SQ. I can’t wait to start recording with my Hellborg preamp.

Guess I joined the club today... first time with a Sadowsky, and it's pretty dang cool. Been noodling on it between meetings today and I'm impressed with the evenness? of the sound up and down the neck, even with my compressor turned off.

I've been curious about the brand ever since I saw Jason Newsted play them live many many years ago... and I have a feeling I just opened a can of worms.

I love the fact that the MJ5 has a default 18mm spacing and a slimmer width neck because of that. It’s a great feeling bass. The MIG is a very well crafted bass. My main hangup with it was the tuners - they’re simply not the quality of the Hipshot USA stuff on the NYC basses. Heck, I might say, at least the ones that were on my MIG, were not even up to par with the Hipshot Licensed stuff I’ve had on MIJ Metros or other basses. I’ve since replaced them with Hipshot USA. Whether it was one being sticky, another feeling like it had sand in it, another being almost impossible to turn - I tried adjustments without any luck. Put the Hipshots on and was good to go. Other than the tuners, based on just the one I have, I think the MIG basses are fantastic.

Edit: I'll add this thought on MIG, too - I've bought two of the black Sadowsky bridges made by Warwick and am on my second set of Sadowsky soaps made by Warwick. The black coating/finish on the bridges is not as good as what Hipshot uses on the NYC bridges - it chips fairly easy. I like the feel of the soft touch coating Warwick is using on the pickups, but the first soaps I had, the coating was flaking off within a few weeks. Warwick USA quickly replaced them and while the replacements have held up better, the coating is already flaking off again. I don't expect bridges or pickups to remain pristine with as much play time as I put on them, but they should hold up a bit better than they have. With that, neither issue is something that I've felt the need to reach out to anyone about, but I thought it worth mentioning after thinking about it.

Thank you for your feedback. We will have new tuners later this years that I think will hold up very favorably against the Hipshots. I experienced the issue with the soft touch covers myself but I thought that problem had been corrected. Thanks again.

Everything is made to my specs at Nordstrand, except for my soap bars which is a proprietary design made for me by Duncan.

This is incorrect. We still have some single coil Duncan J sets on hand but the stacks have been built at Nordstrand for several years already.

They are made to my specs…not Nordy’s.

Oh brother, just wait.;) It gets worse. You'll start hanging around that Club Sadowsky. And then you will start perusing the classified to see what Sadowky basses show up. The GAS will build up then BANG another of Roger's beauties will show up on your doorstep. Don't ask me how i know this.:D

Not to go on about this, but I thought I lost my marbles. Roger, this is a quote from a few years ago that states the stacks were custom from SD. I assume during this time Duncan made your stacks but you have since switched to Nordstrand?
