Club Sadowsky!!!

I will do on the morrow. I've just locked up my office for the day and need to get out shopping (silly season) but absolutely will do so
Right.... Earlier than expected. I you get the gist of it....

The weird thing is the two tiny holes on either side of the pickup. No idea why. Not a train smash. I didn't even notice them when I put the plate on 😂

Since they're cheap, and now WE know they fit properly, I'm tempted to try other different colors, like the black pearl or the bronze pearl.
I'm curious about the quality, could you take more pictures of the pickguard installed? Thanks!

I (ignorantly) ordered one, which it specified was for a 5 string (and I either missed that or just ignored it), just to see if it would fit my 2023 MIC ME four string (it doesn't) but it looks to me like it's perfectly fine from a build quality standpoint. It's a pickguard and it's inexpensive, not sure how much difference there would be in quality versus something pricier. I'd love to find one of these for a four string but nothing in any of their ads specifies they make one specifically for a four string. Anyone gotten or found one that fits a four that isn't $50+ plus shipping in price? Anyone have a take off Olympic White PG for a MIC four string they'd part with?

"perfectly fine from a build quality standpoint" is the word to describe it. I ordered a black 1-ply for my SMX 21-5 and couldn't be happier. Perfect fit, the cut is exactly same as my original tortoise pickguard. And it's cheap!

I can check with them if they have 4-string versions, too. And then I'll let you know.

I'm curious now, which pickguard did you order? Can you put a photo here?

Ordered via the link you sent me (thank you again), from Ali Express. Mine also has the additional little holes, one on either side of the bridge pickup cutout. Hadn't noticed it earlier until I read @glassmoon's post about them and looked. So pretty sure it came from the same place as yours. This one is a three ply in "parchment" FWIW.

Photos attached. The first one is an outlined copy of the PG from my four string ME done on standard graph paper. The second one is the one I bought form Ali Express laid over the outlined copy. I lined up the pickup cutout and the cutout from the truss rod adjustment wheel to show as accurate a difference as possible since those two points of reference don't change. Beyond the obvious differences, the majority of the screw holes also don't line up. Hopefully these photos are good enough to get some idea of the difference between the PG for the four and the fiver. The white bar in the 2nd photo is from my overhead desk lamp.

Yeah, if you find a link/source to the four string PG I'd be grateful for the info. Appreciate it.

Mine also came with these two small holes, and I guess they're intended for those who are using the "pickup cover", like the vintage Fenders. So it's a pre-drilled hole, making easier to install the cover if you want.

Hi all
I’m new in this forum, i’m in search of some informations or feedback about the Sadowsky metroexpress basses.
some month ago i bought the verdine white signature.
It’s a great bass, very confortable and versatil. I mostly use it active on both pickup, with just a little boost.
But i’m not fully satisfy by the bridge pickup alone. I find the tone too high.
I’m wondering if the VTC retro kit would be a good upgrade in this way ?

This is mainly a question for those who run direct with IEM’s but am grateful for any opinions tbh!
I currently have an NYC Verdine White which I have been running through a Tonehammer Di. Having used the AGS with passive basses in the past with great results I was disappointed with the results when I tried it with the Sadowsky. The sound is ok but a bit muddy and undefined, it just doesn’t seem to jive well with the Sadowsky pre.
Now in clean mode on the Tonehammer it is a different matter all together, big clear tones with lots of growl and definition with all eq set flat, I am going to run this setup at church on Sunday to see how it goes live.
So my question is, what preamp Di pedals have you guys had success with using your Sadowskys? And do you find the basses favour a big open clear sound more than a more compressed overdriven sound?
Thanks in advance.

I can't see any link for a 4 string version from Pleroo Custom Guitar Parts. That is weird???

Have to preface with the fact that I dont use IEM, so my experience may not be useful to you. Ive used a VT bass or a THDI with my Sadowskys in past and TBH, the unmolested tone from the Sadowsky pre (to me) sounds the best live. My few pedals usually help my Fenders, but your description of muddy and undefined was my result when paired with my Sadowskys (perhaps likely bc Im an idiot when trying to understand signal paths). I am perfectly happy now with my Sadowskys direct Into amp from my tuner. FOH signal from Genzler MG head integrated DI set to pre, not post output. Rarely I’ll use one of my other DIs live but find that a seperate DI, including JDI, sounds (to me) no better than integrated DI, at least for live. And bonus is less cr*p to carry, quicker setup, less messing with pedalboard arrangements/batteries/power supplies/patch cables. And it sounds good. Very good, I think. Qualifier of course, is that a bad FOH guy could easily make anything sound poopie if they desired or didnt care.

I use a Darkglass Vintage deluxe DI, after trying multiple other DI’s. On the recommendation of a film score engineer, he stated he always gets the sound he needs from that unit. It has a drive section for vintage tube distortion which I never use. My sadowsky Modern is played clean. The DI is set flat, I set the output to the level most conducive with the IEM monitor mixer app, and just tweak the on board ever so little to get the sound in my IEM’s. Works brilliantly. Lotsa players place too many pre’s between the instrument and the final signal send. If you leave the sadowsky pre full off, then get your sound with the DI, you’re usually good to go. I just happen to get a fine sound with the DI flat.

Looks cool, but how much you paid for your pickguard?

I think it was around $65 plus 12.95 ship for the black marble. The plain white was less. The control plate was $15. Tony Dudzik own the company. He’ll use your existing guard as a template. Good guy too.
I'd messaged you previously for that info, which you graciously sent to me (thank you again) so I've looked into that option. By the time I took my existing PG off and paid shipping to send it to them, spend the m/l $65 plus return shipping I was going to be close to $90 in. I'd like to find one in (at least close to) the same color as mine (olympic white, or parchment is close enough) but I don't want one so badly as to spend that much on it. Thus the looking at the inexpensive knockoffs. As popular as these basses are and with them making PG's for the five string I can't imagine that a four string version won't pop up at some point. Mine looks fine with the existing tort PG but it's always nice to have reasonable cost options. The search continues...

I think the $65 is more akin to the custom colors. Problem is, if you want a quality “anything”, you’re kinda stuck using a craftsman to make it. In almost every case, quality is commensurate with price. Ive tried WDMusic and they came in well over $100 for the same work.

I’ve had great success with him, but hey, Warwick sells direct replacements too. You can be sure they’ll fit, and the pricing is fair.

$30 (plus shipping) I can live with. Unfortunately they're out of stock on the parchment color which appears to me to be the color closest to my Olympic White bass. Gave them my email to be notified when (if?) they come back in stock. Never thought to look at the Warwick website, should have been obvious. Yeah I'm a bit slow on the pickup sometimes... Again my appreciation for the link and info.
Isn't there a company that makes a p-guard off of a tracing? I'm fairly certain that I had one made, many years ago that worked that way.
That's what we've been discussing, yes there are a couple places. Sending in your PG, paying shipping to send it to them, then having one made and paying for it and return shipping, for me at least (tight bastard that I am) is more money than I'm personally willing to spend on a pickguard. Different strokes.

Mainly, what I was saying that I just did a tracing of my pickguard and if I recall, I just had to fax the tracing. And they fit perfectly. Unfortunately I am unable to recall who I used for this. This way i didn't have to ship the PG to them and I wouldn't be without a pickguard for several weeks. I have had several bad experiences with off the shelf pickguard where to mounting holes didn't line up.

A! Silly me. I just noticed that you are referring to the Warwick shop. That wasn't an option many years ago. Disregard my prior post.
