I originally emailed with Roger when he named the chinese line “MetroExpress” stating the Japan units may be confused with , and possible devalued due to the same model line name. He did not feel that would be the case. It is unfortunate as these Japan basses are quite spectacular. I wouldn’t be selling it, but I’m really only using the Modern 4 now. Better to let it go to someone that’ll appreciate it. But to be clear, JAPAN MetroExpress basses are a different model line completely, and rival NYC basses in quality.

I have two Japanese metro lines and a Japanese metro express. I prefer the japanese metro express slightly better.

Had a great time with the MetroExpress last night....tone was very full and punchy and notes sounded good played all over the neck. We had a rare 4 hour show (4 X 45 min sets) and the weight and ergonomics of the Sadowsky made it an easy night. I varied the p/u selector depending on song and ran the EQ at about 30% on for both the treble and bass. That would vary based on how I ran the pickups. I did some minor tweaks to the bass this morning and then will be headed out for another 2 hour early evening gig. I'm posting a little clip from last night....this is a new place for us and they like the volume kept low. The walls and floor are all concrete so things can get noisy quick. We really had to lay back but everything worked out. If you listen to the clip use headphones.

Is there any way to get a tighter string spacing on a Sadowsky Modern 4?? Does Roger have Sadowsky bridges that could give me the same string spacing (18mm) like on a 5 string?? I’ve gotten so used to playing with a tighter spacing with the 5 (string to string), that going to a 20mm on a 4 feels a lot different to me now. Is there another solution, like just putting a bridge on that I like and keep the original for resale. I think it could be a popular feature because I believe there would be a demand for an option like this

Hipshot A style. Polished chrome. Aluminum. Comes in multiple spacing and theyre also each adjustable within the saddle. I’ve installed em on many of my Sadowsky basses. To either reduce weight, recenter a skewed OEM bridge, or change spacing. And theyre about 25% cheaper than a warwick sadowsky bridge. Oh, and they’re quick release too. I personally prefer them over the OEM bridge, as excellent as it is.

"The Sadowsky Effect"

Was thinking about this the other day... For the last several years, whichever Sadowsky I bring to a new gig or project, if I return with a different Sadowsky, I always get asked to bring the original. Doesn't seem to matter which model I bring on the first date, it's always the same thing. They want that same jolt from the first experience.

Fascinating I thought.

The HipShot B Type bridge in aluminum is way lighter and much more resonant than the A Type. The A type is more engineered, has spacing adjustment latitude, and looks cooler. But, the B Type Al bridge is a better Jazz Bass vibe unit. IME, FWIW. YMMV.

I used my new Sadowsky on a couple of more gigs this weekend. I guess some of the new Metro Express instruments are hit or miss but I feel like this bass is a steal at this price range. Effortless to play and tone for days. I have been running the bass around 30% and treble anywhere from 10-40% depending on the song. Also use the p/u blend for different tones. I’ve decided to order the main Sadowsky pre with the VTC and will get that installed over Thanksgiving. Other than that no need to change a thing on this bass.

It’s lighter for sure, but by 1-2oz. Normally negligible. The spacing adjustability seemed to be the priority. But both are excellent.

It seems the older I get string spacing is becoming more and more of a priority in the final preference profile for me.
