Thread question/poll:

I'm curious about diffs between various PJ5's and JJ5's...

It's best if you currently own one of each, but if you own only one, but have spent a good amount of time on the other and remember it well, that's still good enough for me.

So for all you folks out there with the right experiences under yer belt, how would you characterize the diffs. Both tonal, and any playability diffs you think are relevant.

Make sure you include the woods in each. I know the relevance of that is highly debated here, but I'd still like to know. I'd also like to know Metro/NYC and pickup types, as well as your general playing style/prefs. Doesn't have to be a huge post full review on both. Keep it simple and fun. :)

I know a lot of this is very highly subjective, but I don't care. Just tell me what you feel and hear.

Ok... ready... set.... GO! :)

I don't have time with a PJ5, but there are some old clips featuring a JJ5 and PJ5 floating in a thread posted by Ari. Have you found those? I'm too lazy to search for you.:p

regardless of the woods (cause i've had a few),

my JJ basses are definitely rounder in the upper mids, while the PJ sound tends to have a little more edginess and a slight boxiness in the upper mids. and felt like the P was always a touch more dominant in the overall sound of the bass. sometimes, i wished that i could have a tone knob just for the P pickup to roll back that edge.

for most of the stuff i like playing, i dig the JJ sound more.

I just got the Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD. The best thing I like about her playing is her big smile that appears frequently. :D It actually looks like she's having fun. :hyper:

Which is a lot more than most people that hide behind an instrument. :ninja:

In addition to her smile, she seems to play the right part at the right time. :cool: Grooving when needed, stepping out when appropriate and never overplaying. I think that's what makes her sound so good.
