For lotsa' folks, very closely. I think the Metros offer a tremendous value for someone wanting to dip their feet in the Sadowsky waters and see what it's all about... especially if you find one on the used market. Highly recommended!

I think that king koa 4-banger and 4311's spalted 5-er are my favorite "fancy tops" of all time.... amazing. I'm also big fan of the flame tops too of which I've had a couple. I much prefer the flame over the quilt tops. So many fantastic looking specs to choose from not to mention some really cool paint jobs and transparent finishes.

I think if I ever custom order again the bass will have an ash body with busy/tight grain and flamed maple board, maybe a fancy top... and always chrome hardware for me, although the black isn't bad. :cool: We are some lucky/happy owners for sure.

I used to have a Metro UV70 ash/morado fiver with the HCs and I swapped them out for the singles and I felt the tone was much improved -- more punchy and growly, for lack of better terms. More dynamic somehow.

Anyway, I sold that Metro and I would have definitely had singles put in my Will Lee that's on order but they are standard anyway on that model. :cool:

All this talk about the Sadowsky SCs made me want to put my SC set back into my MV5. (I had Nordstrands NJ5 SCs in mine for a few months).
I am glad I got back to the Sads.
In a nutshell, I would call the Nordies "fat rock" PUs whereas the Sads have more mids and are more versatile.

For a long time, 4311 was my absolute favorite Sadowsky. I bugged AJ about it several times when he owned it.

I still think it's a fantastic look, but when I ordered my dream bass, I went with maple burl and the vintage look with a '59 burst and a tort PG. I guess I still love the classic vintage look, though I do like the burls and spalted tops.

Awesome look though. Still one of my all-time favorites.

It is actually even better now. I switched to the single coil pickups and it is MUCH better. It is totally killer. I liked the HC pickups but truly prefer the SC. I still have the HC pickups in case I have a whim one day to put them back in. But, I don't see that happening. :bassist:

SADOWSKY SPALT PJ4 CLAIMS ANOTHER VICTIM​


I am now playing guitar in a band. The guys looooooove my Sadowsky swirl strat: "Use the Sadoe-ski swirl thing...yeah, yeah, that strat and the Soldano sound unbelievable!" The bass player in my band uses a basic Fender J. I tell him about Sadowsky basses and the bass player says he always likes a good P bass.

Tonight I brought over the PJ4 spalt and this guy nearly crapped in his pants and stenched the rehearsal hall! We all could finally hear defined, clear, even bass notes. The bassist is rambling like a village idiot who's had way too many Redbulls: "...it's so light...it plays so fast....this bass sounds so big, punchy, and defined....I never played a bass that was this good. How much would this cost me? Like$12,780? Because it's worth it!"

Hey guys. Here's another clip of my NCY ash/maple vintage with Sadowsky singles. This clip is through a much more 'transparent and mellow' rig (LDS 12/6.5 two way cab and the F500 flat) compared to the very grindy rig of the previous clip a few pages ago.

Just FYI if anyone is interested. The strings are Sadowsky Blue Label Steels, and the recorder, amp, and room are identical to the previous clip.
