Hey guys. Here's another clip of my NCY ash/maple vintage with Sadowsky singles. This clip is through a much more 'transparent and mellow' rig (LDS 12/6.5 two way cab and the F500 flat) compared to the very grindy rig of the previous clip a few pages ago.

Just FYI if anyone is interested. The strings are Sadowsky Blue Label Steels, and the recorder, amp, and room are identical to the previous clip.

Sounds great Ken! I'm really surprised how mellow that sounds considering you have the most aggressive, grindy combination (ash/maple, single coils, SS strings, F500).

Lot's of tones in those darn Sadowsky's, and that particular cab is very 'studio monitor' pure with the 'LF' type subwoofer driver and the nice paper cone mid driver. It's a little mellow for my tastes personally, but it's a nice tone, and presents the Sadowsky in a bit of a more 'pure transparent' way to my ear!

All this talk about the Sadowsky SCs made me want to put my SC set back into my MV5. (I had Nordstrands NJ5 SCs in mine for a few months).
I am glad I got back to the Sads.

Tho I have no idea with those SC's would sound like by comparison, but I'm pretty darned happy with mine!

SADOWSKY SPALT PJ4 CLAIMS ANOTHER VICTIM​

I am now playing guitar in a band. The guys looooooove my Sadowsky swirl strat: "Use the Sadoe-ski swirl thing...yeah, yeah, that strat and the Soldano sound unbelievable!" The bass player in my band uses a basic Fender J. I tell him about Sadowsky basses and the bass player says he always likes a good P bass.

Tonight I brought over the PJ4 spalt and this guy nearly crapped in his pants and stenched the rehearsal hall! We all could finally hear defined, clear, even bass notes. The bassist is rambling like a village idiot who's had way too many Redbulls: "...it's so light...it plays so fast....this bass sounds so big, punchy, and defined....I never played a bass that was this good. How much would this cost me? Like$12,780? Because it's worth it!"

I keep trying to tell my guitar player that they could make him a Tele that would just destroy his MIA Fender, but I don't think he believes me. He has 19 guitars but only plays two or three at gigs -- mainly just two Teles. I tried to tell him that if he sold a couple of the ones he never uses he could have an incredible Sadowsky Tele that would probably be his #1 but he just doesn't "get it." I think since he's never seen one of their guitars he has no reference point other than Fender. He does like my bass tone though -- the PJ sounds great on everything.

Still waiting for pics of the bass with the Tort guard! It's been like 4 months? You can't be that busy, Well????

great tone, Ken. Which comes to prove that you can make a bright bass get warmer easier than the other way around.

+1 Much easier to dial out, or 'tame' with a more organic sounding cab, than to try to dial in when it is not there. I'll put up another clip eventually using the Berg AE410/F1 (my main gigging rig with this bass). That is a 'rip your throat out with a chain saw' aggressive, grindy beast with this bass

VERY nice! I love that classic color combination, and the mix and match with the AG500/HS210 much be fantastically fat, smooth and warm. I'm probably going to finish out my bass collection with a Sadowsky 5 string P eventually.

Saw Steely Dan perform the Aja album on Monday night at the Chicago Theater. Of course Walter had two custom Sadowsky guitars with him. Sounded excellent. Those boyz still got it. Too bad Freddy Washington was a bit buried mix-wise all night. His stage rig was a GS410/212 stack with dual AG500 amps and Fender P, with the 410 mic'd. I'm sure he must have been running a DI too.
I was bummed when I could barely hear the thumping on Peg... He should have had a Sadowsky even though Chuck Rainey recorded it with a P and flats. Guess the sound guy could have fixed that for the FOH...?

As much as I love Freddie's playing, and his work on Morph the Cat, I was really disappointed in his live tone... nothin' but mud

No, I wasn't at that show. I saw him on the Morph the Cat tour in Detroit in a GREAT sounding room (the Detroit Music Hall). Everything sounded GREAT except the bass... just pure mud.
