Club Sadowsky!!!

Hey fellow Sadowsky nuts, been a while since I've posted in here.

I've got the fever again! Assuming the sale of a couple of basses goes thru, I'm thinking of getting another Sadowsky. Although as slow as the music biz has been, I should be saving! :confused:

I'm kinda diggin the idea of a new Metro MV5-24. I'm so used to a 24 fret neck and I'd like to get a setup with jazz pickups in it.

Either way I'm going to have to send in my Modern 5 for a fret job & some TLC soon. I've been tearing it up on that bass since 1999 and it had some good wear on it when I got it. You can see some of the wear here. :bassist:

My NYC J4 has a full size body and IMO it's as confortable as the reduced size bodies because it's also quite light (8.3 pounds); in fact, I like the full size body better...it fits my body in a way that makes me feel cozy.

Metro and 5-string means that you'll have to search a little more to find a light one but you'll sure find something. :)

Well I ordered mine 3 weeks ago (Oly White/Tort guard, Ash/Morado 5 string). I guess I have to wait a few months to find out.

I used to own a M24-5 and it was considerably lighter than my MV5 (both Metros)... I am not sure though if both basses have the same body size or if the MV is bigger than the M24-5.

So a UV might be heavier than your M24-5.

My UV70 5 is about 10lbs, but honestly, its so well balanced and comfortable that I barely notice it the weight even with a crappy non padded 2" strap. With my nice padded Sadowsky strap it feels like a featherweight. Go figure!

I'm pretty sure any full size non-swamp ash bodied J5 is gonna' most generally be around 10 pounds. There's a definite tonal component that goes with that density/weight which I think gives the bass a bit more of the authentic tone.

I totally agree with you on that Vic. For what it is, 10lbs is totally an acceptable weight for a 5 string full size jazz body made of ash. The tone is killer too, so no complaints here!

My UV70 5'er in ash weighs about 10.4lbs. I use a comfort strap and I can play it for hours. We have done a 2 hour long set once and I didn't even notice I had the bass on. The only downfall to those comfort straps is that you cannot jump up and down and play at the same time. There is too much elasticity and my bass was moving all over the place. Oh well.

Permit me to explain..... If you put a P pickup in it's normal location on a J-bass, the treble coil will break the edge of the pickguard on the bridge side edge. So when we do a PJ, we make a pickguard that is about 1/2" longer on the bridge side and position the control plate a little farther down as well.

So...we could add a P to J, but it would have to be moved about 1/2" closer to the neck than normal. And that is something I don't want to do.

Yes, the WL4's are AMAZING! Super comfy and versatile. The neck is awesome as well. I like mine more and more each day.....can't seem to put it down. :bassist:
