Seriously tho, I do really like 531 a lot too, so this is a win win situation. 531 is more of a typical quilt, whereas 530 is tighter and more linear, almost like a "flamed quilt", and I just REALLY like that. 531 does have a more subtle elegance tho, so if you're looking for something that's very nicely figured, but not "too much", 531 would truly be a great choice.

Hey guys... the back of the neck of my 2004 MV4 is too glossy for my tastes. Does anyone have a recommendation as to what to use to smooth it to a more satin "smooth to the touch" finish - Light gauge sandpaper, steel wool or ...? Also - does anyone know if the radius of the 2004 Metros is 12" like the current line or something different?

I'm with Chef on this one. The wider 531 pattern is more "manly" as opposed to the 530 being more "dainty".

On a different note, Fedex delivered my first Sadowsky today! It's a Metro RV4 in 59 burst. I know, I know - no picture, no bass. Coming soon....

The standard, vintage and modern metros are all 12" radius. I believe the ultra vintage is closer to vintage spec however. I think it was 9"

Citing Roger: "You always need to be careful about contaminating your pickups with steel wool dust. Get some 320 grit sandpaper and use that instead. We put a thin finish on our necks with the intention that you could wear through it quickly. To me, nothing feels better than an old neck in which the finish has worn through. There is really no need to put anything on the maple after you have worn through."

Yes It will have a guard. I know I know it will cover some of the top. I don't want to scratch it up when I play and I like the look....

I think that sweaty hands and lots of play time is the ticket.

Lightly using a green Scotchbrite may help if you have soft hands.

Thanks guys. This particular MV4 was picked up used a few months back from Il Capo (Thanks man... I am loving this bass!!!) and I will consider both those options.

Me too - I bought a JJ5 in burst with similar top and wanted as wide as I could get.
Mind you, you might not put a tort p/g over it like I did . . . the finer pattern makes it look too 'busy'.

After playing my Sadowsky MS5 on numerous gigs over the last couple of months, I can say that I'm officially hooked. I just love the over sound and feel. It has sounded great on both big gigs and at church. Here's a crap phone pic of my church rig

I officially have the disease. My second Metro -- the MV4 NAMM bass 8 of 10 that's had a few owners here since 2006 -- will be on its' way to me next week. Is there a special handshake I should know?
