:D Yeah, commenting on aesthetics is so personal that I just removed it as being 'uninteresting'. However, since you liked it, I will just more politely restate that the bass pictured represents the perfect combination of everything that looks bad to me:D

I have been wrestling with the tone of my Standard 5 as of lately. It has the stock HC pups with the 500K upgrade. But, the tone is so scooped that it is not working for me. My Standard 4 has the stock HC pups with the 500K upgrade and the tone just kills!! It is a chambered ash/maple Standard 5. So is my Standard 4. I just cant understand why the 5'er doesnt sound as good???

Can anyone chime in on simular findings? I was going to change out the pups to the Singles but, descided to try the 500K upgrade first. The acoustic tone of the instrument is great. I just think the pups are not doing the tone any justice.

I thought I would try here first to get some fellow Sadowsky owners input. Thanks in advance for any help!

You know, maybe I'm just too "forgiving", but while I definitely have my prefs as to what I'd personally buy or not buy, I just skimmed the NYC Sold gallery, and of all the finishes and wood combos, I could literally only find one color I personally found unpleasant. The faded/milky pinkish-reds like the faded fiesta red or coral salmon pink.

Then I saw this one, and just about threw up in my mouth a little... whatever total sucker paid real money for this bass REALLY got screwed!!! ;) :D

Ask about getting the Nordstrand pickups if he has a neck pickup. I know he's got the bridge because that's what's in the PJ5's. Otherwise, maybe just try a standard set of NJ5S's, or a NJ5S neck with his bridge. Those pickups definitely have more going on in the mids than the standard HC's Roger has on his 5's. This comment is also based on the assumption you want to stick with a hum cancelling design. Otherwise, I'd definitely say try the SC's.

As to your question, I can never keep track of what goes in what, but it's possible the pickups in the 4's are custom winds of a totally different pickup than on the 5's, which would explain why they sound different.

Anyway, check into the Nordstrands. I think you'll be pleased.

Awesome! Gold ano (or any other reflective guard) makes a bass difficult to photograph, but your fix brings out the true beauty of this one. :eek::)

I just had a repair done on my NYC V5, new pre circuit board. I also had the .500 pot installed as well in case I ever went back to the HC's from the singles. As Roger told me about the .500 with the singles " it could only sound better". Man!!! Does it ever! My bass now sounds like I always wanted it to! It never sounded this good!

If you generally play places that are relatively "polite" to SC's, or if you don't care that much about hum, or, if you rarely do more than just slightly favor one pickup when not fully blending, IMHO, the SC's are "the stuff". :)

My analog to yours is 4098, literally identical right down to the weight, except for the color, and while I LOVE the sound of this bass a LOT (definite long term keeper), I also really love the more hifi tone I get from 5249 with the HC's in it for a lot of stuff.

That said, I would probably not be as much into the HC's on an alder/rw model.

In what sense? I think he handles those the same as new basses... same approval period, etc. All they do with pre-owned basses is go through and make sure everything works right and it plays perfectly. I think they rarely or never do any cosmetic stuff to them other than a simply cleanup/polish.
