Yep, I didn't stand a chance. I approached the Sadowsky crew a year or two ago about an anodized aluminum guard and at the time they didn't offer it. Seeing that bad boy at a discount was 'meant to be'. Can't WAIT!!!!
Let's take another look at that beauty, but with some of the "burn" taken off the pic... mmmmmmmm.....

Wow Chef, I'm just the opposite on that one. I think P bass bodies look much more symmetrical as P/J's personally. J bodies look a bit cluttered to me with P pickups. I guess that's why Roger offers both, P bodies for people with good taste, and J bodies for the other guys.

I prefer a J body, but I definitely don't dislike the P body, and that vintage trans blonde with the flamed board and anodized guard just looks damn sexy to me... despite my pref for a J body, and despite my general lack of appreciation for white basses to boot!
Tho... and no offense to Roger... I still think a tort guard would look even better.

One disclaimer... currently, all my Sadowskys are ash/maple.
I do a few other things tho too...
Sometimes I like to back the VTC off a lot more and solo (or more strongly favor) the bridge pickup... maybe even adding some bass. The VTC affects mids more as you back it off (typical of any VTC/PTC). This gives a really cool burpy yet smooth and low mid strong tone. Way cool.
I also like to drop the VTC AND boost the treble to varying amounts. This may seem silly on the surface, but try it. It's not the same thing as just leaving the treble alone and maxing out the VTC (removing it).
Even if the Sadowsky preamp was boost/cut, I'd still like to have a VTC on there (though I do admit it wouldn't be as important to me in that case). The main reason is, it's NOT strictly a low pass treble chop circuit. It's a variable RC circuit in parallel with the inductance of the pickup(s), and while the behavior is a function of frequency, it's not as simple of one as some people assume. This is why mids get involved the more you have the VTC dialed back. It actually changes your sound... it doesn't just drop off the high end.
Anyway, FWIW/IMHO.
Me too....I like what happens when you drop the VTC and add some treble. I think that is one of the unique things about the Sadowsky pre that a lot of people don't think about doing...I love the pre enough to have an outboard version for my other basses. I wish the outboard pre somehow had a VTC on it...would be awesome!

Thanks for the pic Vic! Looks even better if that's possible. I might grab a tort guard for different options, but personally speaking I think that gold guard is HOT and will look sharp on stage. As for the VTC, I generally leave it on all the way most of the gig. It DOES have a funky effect in the midrange this way, and when I leave the treble knob up considerably, the VTC allows me to tweak one knob to be able to quickly switch between agressive slap and mellow fingerstyle. VERY cool, and limits my tweaking to two knobs. VTC and blend pot.
