There is a nice mid punch in there as well that the HC scoop out. These are subtle but, you can hear a difference. Also, to my ears the bass sounded alot clearer. I could not hear any hum while blended. Even when soloing each pickup it was quiet.

I will get to hear them in my rig tomorrow night at some decent volume so I will have a better reoprt on them.

But, to answer your question. Yes, you will hear tonal differences. IMHO it is a good thing. I am pleased after a brief audition of them last night.

I'll be VERY interested to hear your results. You assess the diffs the way I do. The HC's have a little bit more going on way up high, and while that adds kind of a cool sparkle to a slap tone, as does the little bit of scoop in the HC's (just a little), the "grind" (aka low treble/very high mid emphasis) on the SC's really provides a nice clarity in a dense mix, and the added overall mid presence also adds to the already great cutting ability of the Sadowsky.

Again, I really do like the HC's a lot, but I do prefer the SC's a little more... especially in a mix, which is where most of the magic of the Sadowsky is realized anyway.

+1 I have the HC pups in my Standard 4 and love them. The 5 string ones have a different tone to my ears. The singles really have it going on. If you boost the treble on the bass you can get that high end spank back if you need it. Overall they really are wonderful pickups and have all the focus in the right areas to give you that signature Sadowsky sound and magic you speak of! Cant wait to crank them up tomorrow!

Ok, this sounds good. I think this is what I want to acheive. A more 'mid like grind' for fingerstyle but still able to dial in some spanking highs for my slap tone. :hyper:

I believe they are different pickups, and not just the 4 or 5 string version of the same model (though that needs verification... I can't quite remember how all that breaks down), so that makes perfect sense.

However, even if they were based on the same OEM model, I would still expect them to sound different just because of their physical/electrical differences for the 4-5 string change.

Now I wanna' hear some 4 string HC's (again). That's something I have played some in the past, but not much or recently. :)

Hey, I have two ash/maple Sadowsky basses that are burst/tort, and two non-Sadowsky basses that are alder/rw that are also burst/tort, and one more non-Sadowsky on the way that's ash/maple that will also be burst/tort.

I can't help it. Call me boring as hell, but I'm completely addicted to that look. Every time I thought about getting something different, as many times as I've seen this look (bazillions), and as many of these as I already have, it still just looks the best to me.

I really thought about that while the mint one was in NYC, screw holes or not the un-guarded look has some appeal. I do like J HUD's black hardware idea, just screams of nasty.

Your collection is really really nice and I especially love the quilted top one that you have. (Screen saver bass). You are a large % of the bazillion. Damn the bad luck, eh? :)

While I'm thinking about it, I've had this bass for 11 years and have never had reason to take the pickguard off. That will now become part of my maintenence steps. It was pretty bad under there and included some moisture. Used the Sadowsky polish and it cleaned up really nice. I'll attest to the finish statement by RS a couple pages back. No telling how long that moisture had been under there and you'd never know it now. Might be worth a peek every now and again - just be careful with the screw holes. (sorry, can't help it 3 kids - that's just what you say ;))

Yeah, sux to be me. ;) Seriously tho, thanks, and how I eventually ended with that quilt top (5249) after JUST missing out on it on the site a few months prior is kinda' cool. Pretty lucky, really. :)

Nope. It was more serendipitous than that. It never hit any for sale ads or consignment pages. I just happened to post here that I was getting ready to place an order for EXACTLY the same spec, and got PM'd by the owner pretty quickly 'cause he was looking to get something with the alternative narrower nut.
