Club Sadowsky!!!

I installed these in my Standard 5 (Ash/Maple) and played thru my Markbass F1/Epifani UL2-410 rig. The F1 was set flat with the VPF around the 9:00 position. Man of man was the tone absolutely killer. The mid focus is just cutting while the low end fattens it all up. Boosting the treble on the bass gives you all the sparkle you need up top. With the bass set at full blend and no boosting of the bass or treble the tone is just stunning. That mid focus is perfect for finger style playing. The bass seems to be more clearer as well. I could not hear any 60 cycle hum from these pickups at all. These pickups are a tad louder than the HC pups too. I needed to adjust the input volume on my F1 because they were clipping a bit.

The venue was a large 5000 people capacity function hall. 2 stages with large PA, Lights, etc. There were over 40 bands playing. We went on around 4:45. Close to 500 people were there at that time. I had the volume up around the 11:00 position on the F1 and it sounded awesome.

Overall, I consider the Single Coil pups an upgrade to the already wonderful HC pups found standard in the Sadowskys.

This is based on an ash/maple bass. The jury might still be deliberating on whether this is the case with the alder/rw counterpart, right?

I pick up my ash/maple UV70 5 string with newly installed single coils in a few hours. I hope I'm as happy with them as you are! :hyper:

Yes, most of us that switched to the Singles own Ash/Maple basses. I would think the HC would be a better match with the warmer Alder/RW. However, I have never owned an Alder/RW Sadowsky. I would like to hear how they work with that combo as well. They are a great sounding pickup!

My guess is that you will love them based on the tone goal you described earlier. Im not a vintage guy either. But, these pickups cut like the Slice-O-Matic. :bassist:

+1 I put singles in my Vintage Alder/Rosewood, and I felt it was a move in the wrong direction... the alder/RW really balances out the HC's, with the bigger low end and more polite, sizzly top end yin yanging beautifully with the warmer, slightly more compressed alder/RW vibe. The singles sounded good (just like the HC's sound good in the ash/maple), but the singles really sing in the ash/maple models, and the HC's sound very, very good to me in the alder/RW.

I took singles out of my Ash/Braz RW and dropped in the HC's I think they sound more aggressive. The singles, in this scenario, overstated the pronounced mids and had a negative impact on the growl-factor too, IMHO. In this wood combo, the warmth is retained, but the mid-scooped bite and spanky highs are communicated more effectively..............to me.

Totally +1 Much better communicated than my post above. EXACTLY! Same thing with alder bodies and RW board.

finally up , here is my Sadowsky standard 5 I bought new in 1999 , it has single coil pick ups and back then no vtc but it sounds amazing and always has , it is my go to bass for most of my music , gig's recording etc . im hoping to get a vintage 4 string soon , I need a club member # if anyone knows how to go about that , sorry , still working on getting the pictures up correctly , will get it soon

I had the great fortune of hearing Bart play that WL the other night. Bart was literally bouncing off the ceiling like a loose balloon he was so up! I can tell that bass just SMOKES! I've always loved Bart's tone with his PJ but I think this one even tops the PJ if that's possible. It was so full and clear. Bart plays in a 3-piece band and this bass just covered all of the bases. Pretty much perfect where I was standing.

Congrats on a very exceptional Sadowsky Bart. I know now that it was worth every minute of the wait.
