I remember seeing at least two ash Metros that were described as being less that eight pounds advertised in the classifieds. I have an RV 4 that weighs 9.2 pounds and an MV 4 that feels at least a pound lighter, so it sounds plausible.

Jason's sound comes from aggressive downpicking and generous mids. Not to mention the fact that he and Will Lee use what I find to be the best basses on the planet!
So, after months of hopelessly fighting GAS, I am on the verge of ordering a Will Lee. I need to wait until I get back from vaction in two weeks, but on return I will most likely be placing an order.
My only question is the color. I have enough sunburst and coffee table basses, so I was looking for something a little more traditional. I'm not really a red bass guy, but there is something about CAR with a mint pickguard and matching headstock ... I am also thinking about a seafoam green ...

CAR + mint is an awesome combo. Matching stock would be sweet with rosewood. Maple... not as much imo.

I think matching headstocks are best suited for darker fretboard woods. I prefer the look of a natural maple headstock when the fingerboard is maple as well.
What I want to see is a Sadowsky with the Bird's Eye Maple that runs on the headstock and not just the fretboard. I have a G&L four string SB-2 like that and it's just gorgeous!

I have been playing this Sadowsky 5/24 ash/maple (metro) for a year now and it has brought me nothing but satisfaction. It has a great grain on it.

I played this one at the shop. my CC was lucky because it had 70's pu spacing. I loved the CAR/rw/matching hs combo. And this comes from a natural/vint. tint junky.

For my new P5 I went with CAR/mint. Can't wait to get it! Prolly another 5-6 months, though.

For years I've complained that I love DR hi-beams on my Sadowsky 4 and other J- and P- basses ... but on 5 string I could never dig the hi-beam low B, no matter which gauge I used. I'm really picky and wanted to get that same grindy shiny tight low action hi-beam thing out of my B that I get out of my E (even when I tune the E down to D!) on 4 string.
Well, DR finally figured it out. The DDT 45-125 set on my RS5 is slammin' with real DR tone all the way down, and all the way UP the B string to at least the 7th fret. Not quite the same feel and tone as hi-beams, but pretty close, much closer than all the other sets I use with great Bs (LaBellas mostly).
Awesome strings. Between those and the Area J 5 pickups I installed, I'm loving this bass right now! Those two changes moved it quite a bit closer to my magic MV4.

You probably noticed, but DDT stands for "drop-down tuning", the idea being that they will perform better when tuned below EADG or BEADG.
